Announcing a new program, Hollywood to Edinburgh – a Fringe support group for USA-based artists going to Edinburgh Scotland. We are thrilled to announce a small step towards more artist support for LA-based artists in Edinburgh through a partnership with Summerhall Venues for Edinburgh Fringe 2024! Last year, over 30 Hollywood Fringe shows went to Edinburgh Fringe, and this year, we are expecting quite a few more!

Get started early in Los Angeles through our prep program in July:

—> Catch us at an artist mixer for artists going to Edinburgh on Wednesday, July 17th from 7pm-9pm in Central Hollywood at the Broadwater Plunge.

—> Sign up for the Hollywood to Edinburgh Whatsapp thread here! This thread is for artists who will be in Edinburgh for the Fringe during August 2024.

—> Join us for a virtual panel discussion with past Edinburgh + Hollywood Fringe artists on what to expect on the ground at Edinburgh Fringe, and what tips + tricks you might be forgetting on Tuesday, July 9th from 7pm-9pm

—> USA Artists in Edinburgh Mixer on Sunday, August 4th- meet your fellow artists, work together on a marketing plan, and celebrate being in Scotland!

—> USA Artists & Industry Mixer on Monday, August 19th - mix and mingle with your fellow artists and industry professionals. A perfect way for you to find some new pathways for touring!

—> A Late Night In Hollywood Cabaret on August 22nd, showcasing the brilliant talent coming to the festival from the US!

With so many amazing US artists bringing their work to Edinburgh Fringe each year (many of which start at Hollywood Fringe), we want to do our part to create a stronger pathway! We couldn’t be more excited to expand our support beyond Hollywood and do so in partnership with a similarly missioned venue partner.

ABOUT OUR VENUE PARTNER: SUMMERHALL 

Summerhall occupies a central place in Edinburgh’s art scene. It has won multiple awards in its twelve years as a festival and year-round venue, providing a safe and supportive space that champions high quality, contemporary work that says something about the world and does it in an interesting way.

We are dedicated to supporting the artists that we work with. We value the creative process, even it’s challenges and volatility, and support companies and individuals at every stage of their career: from emerging and independent to major national portfolios. The building’s history as a former veterinary school makes itself felt in the wide variety of performance spaces, each with their own charm. 

Summerhall also has its own brewery, distillery, pub, café and a buzzy festival courtyard. We believe in challenging our own administrative policies and the status quo of the wider festival to the same level expected of artists by their audiences.

We are thrilled to announce 24 total recipients of the 2024 Hollywood Fringe Artist Fund! 

Back in November, we embarked on an ambitious and exciting fundraiser with the goal of funding 24 low-income Angeleno artists at this year’s festival. With the generous support from members of our Commissioners Club, we reached our goal! The following productions were selected by random lottery, and will receive a one-time stipend toward registration, venue, and/or production costs at the 2024 Hollywood Fringe Festival:

Hi! I’m Rody, I’m the Hollywood Fringe Festival Artist Services Manager, and thrilled to be helping you out by answering questions and working to make your Fringe Festival experience a great one.

Before I was a part of the Fringe Staff, I was a participant! So I know how fun it is and how crazy it can feel, and what’s Fringe without a little craziness? Truly, I’m so thrilled to be a resource and someone who you can reach out to for questions you may have in your Fringe journey. Just know you’re not doing this alone, you and hundreds or other dedicated artists are all achieving something wonderful, and doing so together. 

So a little about me! I love reading plays, big theatre nerd, guilty as charged. I love playing card games (I always try and keep a deck of cards on my person). I am a stress baker… so I have burned the occasional banana bread— but if you have recipes please share them. (I promise not to burn it). In addition to Fringe, I’m a carpenter & Scenic Designer and currently teaching Scenic Design at a local high school.

As we all get more into the swing of things at Fringe, please feel free to say hi, strike up a conversation, or just tell me how your day’s going. Fringe is an incredible ecosystem of artists and excited theatre audiences wanting to see/test the limits of what theatre can be, and the best thing: everyone is cheering everyone on— I certainly am.

This year we have one shows performing from our 2020 Scholarship Winners. Our 2020 Winners were not able to perform due to the onset of the Covid-19 Pandemic. The Hollywood Fringe offers every 2020 winner the opportunity to perform in perpetuity until all winners have performed. This year we have performances from:

At Hollywood Fringe, we seek to make the performing arts more accessible, both to the artists who produce work and for those who otherwise cannot afford to see theatre. Scholarship recipients will receive free registration, a stipend toward venue/production costs for three performances, an experienced Fringe mentor, and marketing/networking opportunities with the community.

Fringe Festivals come in all different shapes and sizes; some are open access (anyone can take part by registering), first come, first served, created by lottery, juried, part programmed, or a mix of them all.
