About the Hollywood Fringe
Started in 2010 as the Hollywood Fringe is annual, open-access, community-derived event celebrating freedom of expression and collaboration in the performing arts community.
Each June during the Hollywood Fringe, the arts infiltrate the Hollywood neighborhood. Hundreds of productions are mounted in fully equipped theaters, parks, clubs, churches, restaurants and other unexpected places by local, national, and international arts companies and independent performers.
Participation in the Hollywood Fringe is completely open and uncensored. This free-for-all approach underlines the festival’s mission to be a platform for artists without the barrier of a curating body. By opening the gates to anyone with a vision, the festival is able to exhibit the most diverse and cutting-edge points-of-view the world has to offer. Additionally, by creating an environment where artists must self-produce their work, the Fringe motivates its participants to cultivate a spirit of entrepreneurialism in the arts.
Hollywood Fringe (formerly Hatchery Arts) is a 501(c)3 non-profit (our EIN is 26-2429241). Join our commissioner's club today to support the Fringe programming today!
The festival gives 100% of box office revenue back to participating artists and venues—that’s over 5 million dollars since the inaugural festival in 2010.
Our Mission
Hollywood Fringe (or HFF) provides a platform for emerging, experimental and underrepresented artists to build community with one another. Through that platform, HFF makes live performances more accessible to artists and audiences alike. HFF operates as a training ground for artists to become producers and activates local neighborhoods to spur economic growth.
This mission is manifested in an annual, open-access festival which celebrates freedom of expression and collaboration in the performing arts, hosting thousands of artists from Los Angeles and around the world.
Our History and Vision
Hollywood Fringe was conceived in an environment where the performing arts scene in Los Angeles had incredible momentum and passion but no real sense of place or community. As a result, artistic partnership and collaboration were stymied despite the rich arts scene in the region. Today, HFF continues to provide a cohesive environment for the local neighborhood and the artistic community.
The main components of HFF’s vision are:
....To foster a thriving community of artists
....To make performances more financially accessible, both to the artists who produce them and audience members alike
....To fund underrepresented and low-income Angeleno artists’ performances
....To provide a platform for new and/or experimental work to premiere, get feedback, garner reviews, and receive accolades
.....To teach artists to become producers, thereby developing sustainable careers beyond the Fringe
.....To increase access, inclusion, diversity, and community in the arts.
.....To play an active role in supporting and connecting our local venues and businesses.
These values are the bedrock of HFF, and will continue to guide and shape the organization as it grows.
