FEB 2022

Below is our 2022 Artist, Producer, and Crew Safety Plan. This document is for artists/producers/crew at the Fringe only, not audiences. Audience guidance will come April 18, 2022, two weeks before tickets go on sale.

If you are fully vaccinated (taken all eligible shots, including boosters), these are the requirements:

  • You may attend all Hollywood Fringe sponsored events if you

    • Present proof of full vaccination (taken all eligible shots, including boosters, see below for full details) against COVID-19 along with a photo ID.

    • At all in-person meetings, events, and performances, you will be required to wear a mask indoors in compliance with the current LA County mandate.

      • Your mask must be a medical grade mask and worn while on site (surgical/3-ply, KN95, KF94 and N95 masks). Cloth masks will not be permitted at this time.

  • You may perform on stage while unmasked (masking is required as soon as you exit the stage).
  • Even if you are vaccinated, it is strongly recommended that you & your team test weekly while attending in person events/rehearsals/performances.

If you have proof of vaccination with all eligible shots (including boosters), you will not miss out on any Fringe event or program. Some Hollywood Fringe venues and theatre spaces will not accept unvaccinated performers in their building, and have the right to refuse service. This may apply to some Fringe sponsored event locations as well, and we will make it clear to participants which events are vaccination only.

If you are unable to get vaccinated (or get additional eligible booster shots), for medical or sincerely held religious reasons, these are the requirements to participate:

  • You may attend most Fringe sponsored events if you:
  • Submit verbal or written evidence that you are unable to be vaccinated for medical or religious reasons to any venue you will enter during the Festival (**if permitted).
  • Provide a negative test result (within 72 hours) to be on-site in said venue and photo ID.
  • You must get tested 72 hours prior to entering a Hollywood Fringe venue for tech or performances.
  • Venues have the right to ask you to get tested for other meetings, walk throughs or other events.
  • You may not remove your mask while you are performing at this time.

FESTIVAL EVENT COVID REQUIREMENTS:

The following events will require proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 (all eligible shots received, including booster if applicable) and a photo ID. If you are unvaccinated or not fully inoculated due to a medical or religious reason, you may present a negative COVID test taken within 72 hours of the event. To keep our community safe, we are also requiring medical grade masks be worn while on site (surgical/3-ply, KN95, KF94 and N95 masks). Cloth masks will not be permitted at this time.

Each Office Hours location has different safety measures in place. The current regulations are as follows, but are subject to change:

St Felix: Proof of vaccination OR negative test within 72 hours. Masks are required indoors, but not on their outdoor patio (although we will not be able to enforce that you wear a medical grade mask, it is highly recommended)

Three Clubs: Proof of vaccination, masks are required (although we will not be able to enforce that you wear a medical grade mask, it is highly recommended)

Broadwater Plunge: Proof of vaccination, masks are required (although we will not be able to enforce that you wear a medical grade mask, it is highly recommended)

———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

Q1 What does Fully Vaccinated mean?

* For the purposes of this guidance, people are considered fully vaccinated for COVID-19:

  • Two weeks or more after they have received their last dose of the in a 2-dose series (Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna), or two weeks or more after they have received a single-dose vaccine (Johnson and Johnson [J&J]/Janssen).
  • If it has been over 6 months since your last dose, you will be required to receive a booster shot, if eligible.
  • If you have received all eligible doses, and there is not another dose available to you, you will be considered fully vaccinated, even if 6 months has lapsed.

Q2 Will the requirements for unboosted performers be the same as unvaccinated?

As of now, yes! You can participate using our unvaccinated requirements.

Q3 Is there a chance we may be able to perform without masks if we’re unvaccinated?

As of now, we are not making any promises, but if things lighten up, and the pandemic reaches levels similar to last summer, then yes! We likely will NOT remove testing requirements.

We are trying our best to adapt to best industry practices, as seen here: http://publichealth.lacounty.gov/acd/ncorona2019/bestpractices/venues/

If new information comes forward, we will adapt.

Q4 Why boosters?

As of now, we know it’s not a county requirement to require boosters, but this may soon change. We’re seeing many institutions changing their requirements quickly (including schools, government buildings, performing arts centers etc) to require boosters for artists, staff and crew.

We want to stay ahead of the curve and keep the requirements we put out this month in June or lighten the requirements, not add more policy later on. These requirements are the tightest we will get without a major change in government and industry policy.

Q5 Why allow unvaccinated performers?

Our policy helps us allow for exceptions, while continuing to keep the community as safe as possible by requiring masking and testing. We do not want those who are legitimately unable to get a vaccine to miss out.

That being said, some Hollywood venues will not accept unvaccinated performers in their building, and have the right to refuse service. This may apply to some Fringe sponsored event locations as well, and we will make it clear to participants which events are vaccination only.

Q6 Will an unvaccinated audience be allowed?

Because of the ever-evolving nature of this pandemic, we are going to release our audience safety guidelines on April 18, 2022. If you are interested in what our audience safety plan looked like last year, you can find it here

Our 2022 plans will mirror these guidelines as closely as we can, while continuing to consider the new and developing health recommendations.

Q7 I’m not vaccinated but I’ve had COVID, does that count?

We know that the science has proven that this also provides a source of immunity, but this is not something we can regulate, nor is it common practice. You must still follow the rules for unvaccinated individuals at this time.

Office Hours take place Wednesdays from 7-10 PM starting in late March. We’ve included the locations (and one alternate time frame) below.

Each space will offer drink specials, and there is plenty of food nearby each location if it’s not offered inside the space. If you only wish to socialize outdoors, our events at St Felix Hollywood will include a spacious outdoor area.

DEC 2021

Lois Neville, Festival Director

Who am I:

I moved to Los Angeles in 2005 to study musical theatre at AMDA. After graduating, I started working industry events and education gigs like film premieres at The Arclight and presenting workshops at The Florida State Thespians Festival. My eyes were opened to a facet of the arts that I was unfamiliar with, but was starting to flirt: arts administration.

I joined the Hollywood Fringe team in 2010 and haven’t looked back. Through my time at Fringe, I’ve discovered my artistry is behind the curtain. My true passion is supporting other artists on their journey and creating a community where everyone feels they belong.

I’ve worn many hats at HFF over the last decade; Volunteer, Bartender, Food and Beverage Director, Partnership Director, International Ambassador, Operations Director. All of these hats make for a very full closet but have also given me hands-on experience in all of the different moving parts of the festival.

Beyond the festival zone, I hail from Seattle and I’m the proud godmama of two of the most amazing two-year-olds in the world (ask me for pictures!). I love to dance, re-watch The Office, and travel. I equally enjoy a blazer and a flannel, and I think that fact says it all.

Why Fringe?

Hollywood is my home. (Yes, I live in the Fringe Zone) I moved here shortly after graduating, and I have vivid memories of the first time I walked down Santa Monica Blvd. I was exploring my new neighborhood, and I found honest-to-gawd theatres at every turn. Right here. In Tinseltown. It was like a magical sign, and often I found myself walking Theatre Row just because it felt right.

I was first introduced to HFF in 2010 when my friend Bryan Burgess (of Bryan’s Bar, the infamous Fringe Central bar) asked if I’d put on a bright orange unitard and play a Fringe Freak in one of FringeTV’s first original productions, “A Family Affair”. I had no idea at the time that a ridiculous favor for a friend would make such a tremendous impact on my life for years to come.

All these years, hats and walks down Santa Monica Blvd later, and I have only fallen more in love with this festival and community. HFF is my longest relationship by far. With Fringe, I found a home and a community that inspires me. The Fringe Zone is my neighborhood, the people in the theatres are my friends, and the artists who share their stories and hearts on these stages are my community.

Thank you for being a part of Hollywood Fringe. Thank you for showing up and sharing your talent, your story, and your spirit with this festival. You, as an individual, are a vital contributor to the Hollywood Fringe. Our festival is merely a platform for the many voices that show up each year. I serve at the pleasure of every artist who chooses Fringe, and I am humbled by the opportunity to do so.

Ellen Boudreau Den Herder, Executive Director

Who am I:

I’m an arts programming specialist that’s been working in nonprofits around Los Angeles since 2014.

As HFF’s Programs Director, I’ve sought to create programming that connects HFF with the LA Theatre community at large. I helped create Fringe Scholarships, HFF’s initiative to help expand and diversify the pool of artists participating in the festival, as well as ran our workshop series and events. Other programs I’ve championed are the Access Committee, the Artist Fund, and our accessibility initiatives. You’ve probably seen me running around the Festival grounds, hopping between shows with an iced coffee in hand and a huge smile on my face. Fringe is my favorite time of year.

Outside of the Fringe, I’m a visual and performing artist, administrator and community programs professional. I’ve worked in programming and engagement with companies such as B.R.I.D.G.E Theatre Project, Grand Vision Foundation, and The Industry Opera LA. I’ve also participated in Cornerstone Theatre Company’s Summer Institute and the Arts for LA ACTIVATE program to further hone in my community-first practice of engagement and programming. As an artist, I’ve dabbled in improv comedy, songwriting and composing, immersive installation work and video art.

As a person, I’m obsessed with my cat, Toast and rewatching network comedies that I can quote by heart.

Why Fringe?

Before joining the Fringe staff in 2016, I was a classically trained musician and arts administrator, searching for community through the music world, and I just wasn’t finding it. From orchestra management to opera stage managing, I jumped job to job looking for a space to call home.

My first introduction to theatre was working at a call center in 2013 selling theatre subscriptions and I kept hearing about this thing called Fringe from my desk partner, Les Kurkendaal, who toured (and still tours) Fringes around the country (and also, I would get the pleasure of working with Les again in 2016 in the creation of the Fringe scholarship program).

Although I didn’t see my first Fringe show until 2015, the name stuck around and when I saw a position for Outreach Coordinator pop up, I made the decision to apply and see what happens. My life changed that year, as I found my home, my family, my community, and I’ve never looked back.

The Hollywood Fringe participant base is an incredibly special community– I’ve never seen any other group of people support each other with such vigor and enthusiasm. The kindness you all show each other (and me) inspires me to be a better person every day, and I wouldn’t want to work in any other environment.

Why Fringe? Because I can’t imagine my life without it.

To the Fringe Senior Staff from the new executive team

As a team, we couldn’t be more thrilled to set off on this new adventure with a senior staff that we have both had the pleasure of working with since the beginning. Bella Luna and Stina Pederson, this festival would not happen without your passion, hard work, and dedication to this festival and community. Your contribution is what makes this all possible.
