The cast was great! They played off each other so well and kept up with the fast pacing of the show (the lead girl, Ava, really nailed the difficult/wordy monologues!) This is a riveting show about impoverished teenage pregnancy, which as Whitmore shows, is a redundant phrase. We see multiple young pregnant girls who end up in a home for unwed mothers, 2026 version. I didn't know such places existed much past the 1960s. It is thought provoking, horrifying, infuriating and all too human. We are rooting for all of the young women, and yet we know little good waits for them after their babies are born.... full review

Alex has a wild imagination and takes the audience on a journey through Japanese history that is strange, personal, and absurd. One of the most gloriously slapstick clown shows at Fringe, it fully embraces the spirit of the LA clown scene. There is so much packed into this show that I don't want to spoil any of it. It is beautifully written and paced, with startling and poignant moments in his relationship to his mother and an extended family over decades.The entire narrative takes us on a journey that visits old loves and brothers like Nathan, the birth of a son, and a cigarette-smoking mother, who growls in a low voice. I was unfamiliar with this play, so can't know what Colleen Hammond Whitmore cut from it - but I'm certain it wasn't anything critical, as the play seemed complete as it is in its hour long incarnation. It's loads of fun and laughs. Great cast and acting. Very glad to learn about this play and see Whitmore do her thing of finding the very essence of a play and sharing it with us.... full review

Jay's one child show is a sweet, clever, entertaining examination of what it means to be an accomplished only child. He excels at many things but just to win, not for the sake of the activity itself.
