Couplet: Folk Marry Kill

carol m. becker · June 24, 2026 certified reviewer
Happily for the HFF, Couplet (like a tender chicken cutlet) did it... again! They (Micah and Marnina) are back doing what they do best, sharing their married journey together through music and songs. And if you were lucky enough to catch Couplet's "Honey Honey Moon Moon," you'll be grateful to hear that in this humble critic's opinion, "Folk Marry Kill" is even BETTER! Get ready to laugh uncontrollably, listen intently, think a lot about death and love, and... play a riff of a game adults lik... full review

The Mary & Margo Art Expérience

The Mary and Margo Art Experience is avant garde-inspired, and it works well. It's zany, kooky, and absolutely hilarious. Shout out to such a fun show!... full review

Total Horror Show

So much fun, campy thrills that had me howling throughout the show! It was written and performed with such a delightful mix of horror tropes and musical styles that it felt like watching a classic 80s genre movie and even being in one at times too. Great use of the theater's space, and so cool to start the show with letting the audience wander around a bit and see different scenes before the main story actually starts.... full review

GHOSTS OF THE ESSEX

As last year's sea shanty show having the opportunity to pass the "sea shanty" torch to a new show, I'm glad it was this one. GHOSTS OF THE ESSEX is a fantastic show with crisp, tight, strong vocals and performances -- and delightful to watch from start to finish.... full review

DADDY ISSUES

raul lorenzana · June 23, 2026 certified reviewer
Daddy Issues is both as introspective, personal and vulnerable, as it is extrospective. Spencer not only manages to invite you into some of the most personal moments of his life but through his work advertently holds a mirror to the audience, inciting them to reflect on their own journey of acceptance and walking in one's truth. A healing body of work, his very own 'Lemonade' (yes, this is a Beyonce reference), if you will.... full review

DOOFUS

tanner cipriano · June 23, 2026 certified reviewer
Gut-busting physical comedy with over-the-top facial expressions that feel like some of the best Looney Toons gags in real life. As a performer, Cole has you laughing at the idiocy of the worst landlord of all time who's constantly failing both his tenants and fellow landlords. Cole also masterfully brought audience members into the gaffes of the landlord's world, and earned all of our trust even while pushing some of the audience into stranger and more outrageous situations.... full review

Grief Box

thomas anawalt · June 23, 2026 certified reviewer
This show is an irreverent satire of capitalistic exploitation with so many wildly hilarious moments. It rings true as a comedy dealing with a dark subject in a dark, cynical time, and yet it's ultimate point of view is one of profound joy and discovery. The agony and the ecstasy of the grieving process are in great hands with Kathleen Leary, who puts her full self into a roller coaster performance that includes song, incredible wit, and revelatory dance.... full review

On the Line

thomas anawalt · June 23, 2026 certified reviewer
This play is a great one-act thriller. Even in very lively, upbeat moments it never allows itself to drift into a sense of safety and ease. The performances ride a razor's edge from start to finish, with remarkably sensitive direction for such a frightening play. I kept having to give my arm rest the occasional squeeze of reassurance because something just seemed not-quite-right and I could feel it in the pit of my stomach.... full review

The Agitators

carol m. becker · June 23, 2026 certified reviewer
For anyone looking for a way to infuse real-life speeches into a telling deeply moving outing, look no further. This is an ideal dramatic solo show that happens when great black orators from the past share their wisdom and passion about slavery. Coupling a most formidable actor, Adrian A. Babatunde Thomas and director, Arthur Romeo, and all that is needed is a receptive audience wiling to listen and learn.... full review

Congrats to Eliza on the incredible honors and I can't believe I got to witness her commit EGOT!!! I had a blast watching her effortlessly switch between being The Best at so many different genres and mediums all while also weaving in some very personal stories and experiences at the same time. She maintains the same dramatic actor mixed with punk rocker energy throughout the performance that consistently proves why her unhinged brand of chaos deserves to win all the awards!... full review
