Elist pulls only the best tropes of the genre and created a piece that studies personal subject matter without hitting you over the head with it. Also this show is HI-LAR-I-OUS. Doofus was a piece of art. In the age of AI, there is nothing more refreshing or authentic than an interactive clown act that combines audience engagement and hilarious storytelling. An incredibly raw and vulnerable piece that wasn't so vulnerable that it pushed us away, rather there were no moments where I wasn't enraptured in the story and the poetry specifically helped connect and made the audience go "mmm" and "yes", proving it's effectiveness in relatability. This show was a heartbreaking exploration of grief. Xander is truly an incredible playwright and performer. I can't wait to see how this show further develops. LOVED IT! You know when you sit down at a play that is hyped as funny, yet you feel hopelessly certain you're about to wince at whatever easy jokes are hurled your way? I experience that a lot at plays, but I didn't at this one, because even before it started I knew it would be hilarious thanks to its cast, who deftly juggle quick and not uncomplicated dialogue with slapstick antics against a marvelously hectic background (unsurprisingly these actors are scholars in the practice of clowning).... full review
