Doll Court was one of my favorite theater/comedy experiences of my life. It will stay with me forever. I hope I get to see this show again someday. Why do so many of us stop playing with toys as we grow up? Who is telling us to stop and why?? Goody was a party in the woods with my best witchy friends. Elena is such a standout when it comes to audience engagement in a way that is as playful, as it is meaningful to who Goody is as a character. Dana and Justin are such a dynamic pair as actors and creative partners. Dana’s writing was sharp, grounded, well-paced, and very funny. The direction seamlessly moved from dialogue scenes to stand up comedy scenes and immersed the audience in the plot. Mimi Collins wrote and performed a phenomenal show. I was with Alix every single step of the journey. I understood why she stayed with her husband and deeply empathized with her optimism that he could change, which made it all the more devastating after each betrayal. A really fun and oddly cozy mashup of horror and stand-up comedy. Something about Jon Schnitzer's whole presentation here reminds me of Jonathan Frakes hosting "Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction," which I think Schnitzer would be perfect to host a revival of. It is a specific and personal story and yet it is an extremely relatable snapshot of the times we're living in. Watching Kylie Vincent perform (and witnessing its arduousness) had me thinking only of both Lily Tomlin and of Richard Pryor and how, like both of them, Kylie Vincent brings that rarely experienced "gravitas" to her storytelling and her comedy. "Anxiety: The Musical!" is Jasmine Elist's autobiographical musical work, relating stories of fear, isolation, and self-deprecation through jubilant and entertaining sketches and songs. The show does a fantastic job exploring the turbulent world of a woman stuck in a Tarantino film. It jumps between various characters from his films, all played brilliantly by Lani Harms.
