Sam Ditto is funny enough to keep the room with her, but the show has this weird habit of turning every bad decision into proof that she is somehow impressive. The harder she tries to seem open and honest, the more fabricated it feels. There is also a familiar kind of selfishness underneath it all, where she gets to make the choices and somebody else always seems to absorb the consequences. "Somos Aire" is a beautiful production filled with emotional truths, imaginative staging, memorable characters and a light whimsy. I loved how "Somos Aire" was more than just one way of storytelling. Wow. This a testament to all the artists who have put up with soul destroying jealous and insecure teachers. This reminds you to remove yourself. This exposes the fault of the many mentally ill and power hungry instructors to such a degree it is almost as hard to watch as it is satisfying. AND THIS SHOW IS SO SATISFYING. This is a beautiful meta-comedy about life that I think we can all relate to. The script by Lucas James Nelson is wonderfully self-aware and relatable, with an added bonus of being beautifully self-depricating of itself and the festival it's a part of. Luca's writing is sharp, funny and personal.
