Xander really bled for his art and it shows. What a raw, emotional, and powerful performance that can only come from someone speaking their whole truth with all of its contradictions. The characters were so well fleshed out, the humor was perfectly placed, and the writing was incisive. Goosebumps and tears by the end of the show — I had no recourse but to stand and clap. Each short play felt pleasantly unique but also thematically tied to the others, plus, the entire show had nostalgic uncanniness reminiscent of the Twilight Zone and Twin Peaks. Circus theare at its best ! Junru explorers a childhood of rigorous, abusive circus training starting at the age four with her complicated family upbringing in China. The desire for the family to have her succeed comes at a huge cost. Loved the unique storytelling with both Chinese (probably Mandarin) and English dialogue coupled with stunning hand balancing acrobatics. And somehow as she grows up, she is able to find her voice, her path and her personal style on her own terms…with grace and dign... full review

Rarely can a show balance humor and heartbreak so effortlessly, but The Abyss does so with such skill! Brendan crafts a beautiful show that has you laughing one second and bawling the next. His attention to pacing and tension in masterful. And the framework of a submersible therapy session is a fantastic way to disarm audiences who may think they're just seeing a run-of-the-mill one-man show. Loved loved loved!
