Miss Stroll takes the well-explored genre of the struggles-in-Hollywood autobiography and infuses it with playful energy, deft character impressions, and enough sincerity to keep the piece grounded. Far from a self-indulgent monologue, the show is truly a performance, with sly comedic songs about the vagaries of Hollywood, artful use of visuals, and a whirlwind of well-choreographed stage antics. Of particular note are Ms. Stroll's enactment of supporting characters in her story, such as a fat-shaming agent and vapid personal trainer. (Her portrayals are so vivid that I briefly developed a false memory of additional actors on stage.) The story's details will resonate most strongly with actors going through similar struggles, but they're pres...

(As a side note, the recorded background choruses were all performed by Ms. Stroll, overdubbed. How do I know that? I asked. I'm a professional.)...

This is a great show at the perfect time for a place like Los Angeles. With calls for inclusivity finally being listened to (if not always heard), it's great to see a talented performer like Theresa sharing the trouble she's had being seen by the overly exclusive, narrow ideals of Hollywood, and showing exactly why they're missing out by doing so. Go see it, have a great time, and add this incredibly talented young woman to your roster of people to keep an eye on....
