James has accomplished a fantastic feat by writing and performing about an alcoholic's turbulent journey through life and the friends that love him. I was lucky enough to attend the preview of My Brother's Room. The acting was very impressive from the whole cast. The story had a nice slow burn feel and the drama was effective and captivating. I came into this show with zero expectations and I left feeling truly moved. Sydney (Claire) did an incredible job of taking the audience on a journey that was dark and funny. The Pearl and The Trick are incredibly impactfull plays that most importantly make you think and reflect on yourself. Especially The Trick talks about bystander effect and is reflection of our society today. The Pearl is hilarious and I would recommend watching it for a good laugh and a great time, and yes besides the fact that it is a comedy it is deeply human and makes you think of family truma from a comedic lans. What I loved most about this show was the ensemble and how well they all worked together. Wonderful actors - super playful which was great to watch. Personally, I'm not that interested in the subject matter...aka the debate, but how they plunge into it is what makes this show worthwhile.
