This is a MASTERCLASS in performance! I was so deeply enraptured in this piece of theatre that I actually remember letting out a breath at the end of the show. I was "all in" from the get-go and feel that the stars aligned so beautifully in the telling of Margaret Garner's story. When an audience leaves transported, an actor's job is complete - thank you, Makena Hammond, for taking us on such a compelling, heart-breaking, deeply moving journey. BRAVO to the writing, directing, and most especially, the ACTING!!... full review

Exquisite. I was captivated by Hammond's honest and vulnerable performance. Her character work, development and use of dialect was impeccable. I loved the way that Hammond brings this narrative to live from different perspective. She gives us a history lesson on African culture that we did not know we needed but so glad we received. As a fellow artist and person of color, I was proud to see a story about our culture represented on the stage in its truest form. Makena was masterful, a truly talented storyteller. One of the BEST one woman shows I have seen thus far. A MUST-SEE show that I would highly recommend that everyone goes to experience. You will be taken on an emotional journey from start to finish. Be ready for your heart and minds wi... full review
