I have a confession to make. I've never seen "The Sound of Music." You'd think that would be a prerequisite for a show that pulls a "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead" on the story of everyone's favorite family of Austrian musicians obsessed with Favorite Things and climbing Ev'ry Mountain. But I'm pleased to say that my lack of firsthand experience with the source material did not preclude me from enjoying this delicious comedy of character and wit one bit. Sure, there are lots of references to the source, but ample context is provided, meaning a passing familiarity with that story is more than enough to get you by here. In the meantime, you will enjoy the intrigues and behind-the-scenes machinations of two wannabe Machiavellis as they ...

This might be the best fringe show I have ever seen. It may have something to do with how much I LOVE "The Sound of Music," but apart from that, everything about this show is top notch. The script is incredibly clever (that's an understatement), weaving the fun and crazy friendship of Max Detweiler and the Baroness Eberfeld with historical moments of the iconic film. Also, it's hilarious, truly. When I heard about the show, I wasn't sure whether the humor would be modern jokes in a historical context or not, but the production really honors the time period and film within the humor in a very intelligent way. Everyone in this show is fantastic, showing a side of these characters that we have never seen before. I would also like to compliment ...

Yes yes yes yes yes. "Max and Elsa" is sold out for a reason -- many reasons. Chief of which is that it just simply rocks. Four actors operating at the top of their comedy game. A polished and breathless piece of theatre. This is the kind of show that makes Fringe great. Of the same stylistic ilk as last year's "Women" (but with more dramatic and thematic meat on the bone), this flip-side send up of "The Sound of Music" is a MUST-SEE. Keep your eyes peeled for when/if they add shows during Fringe and grab yourself a ticket if you can! ...

I've somehow never seen The Sound of Music and somehow it wasn't necessary to thoroughly enjoy this show stuffed full of SOM references. There's enough smart/sly/stupid silliness that I laughed the entire time. I have huge admiration for actors who play things outrageously over the top yet still 100% committed to the "realness" of their characters. This cast excels at this with a special nod to the supremely funny Clayton Farris. Apparently they've sold out their run but are adding performances. Buy a ticket as SOON as it's possible. Well done all!...

Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a fast, funny ride! Very original, great fun. To get the most bang for your buck, re-watch the original SOUND OF MUSIC so when the references come flying at you, you'll catch every parody and take-off. The tag line says it all - "No music. No children." Just laughs!

Totally delightful, even with my spotty recollection of Sound of Music. I think it would be great even if you hadn't seen SoM because it's so funny and charming and you can infer what is going on around them....

So smart. So sharp. So funny. The script crackled. The actors crushed it. I'd say, don't miss this one...but they have a sold out run! I'm feeling lucky to have snagged a ticket before they were all gone. They may add more shows or, if you're lucky, maybe they'll get an extension after the Fringe. So keep an eye out! ...
