Grady last graced the Fringe stage in 2011, when he brought his award-winning play, Fear Factor: Canine Edition. Considering the title of his current piece, I thought he had switched from dogs to cats. Needless to say he wasn't talking about that kind of pussy. In actuality, Grady's new show is about the quest for manhood, and the obstacles that must be overcome to reach that destination. It is about a boy who has to grow up the hard way, without a true "father figure" to teach him how to be a man. John Grady is a true storytelling master. And this piece is triumphant. A former Blue Man and ballet dancer, Grady has taken to solo performance like an eagle takes flight, and he uses his masterful control of his thin, athletic frame to great advantage here. This story is at once funny and wry, and at turns deeply philosophical, heart-rending, brutal, and true in the sense that the best of theater can be. I had seen a 30 minute version of this tale last year at I.O. West, and seeing this 70 minute version was far richer, more intelligent, and deeply affecting. His facility with words, his treatment of big, important ideas of manhood, dominance, fear, and power, and his near-total control of his physicality are a delight to behold. GO!... full review

The best theatre experience I've had in a very long time. It is what theatre should be: engaging, funny, moving, thought-provoking. John Grady is on his way to Toronto....if you have the chance to see any of his shows, get there any way you can.... full review

This show was phenomenal. It's a shame that for whatever reason it was not properly promoted and reviewed therefore it didn't get the buzz going that it absolutely merited. John Grady's storytelling voice is so vibrant, strong, clear, authentic and beautiful that you, as an audience member, are transported and taken on a journey with him. His physicality, acting and writing abilities allow you to be in every painful, glorious, human moment with him. You will laugh hysterically with recognition and find yourself weeping the next with compassion and empathy. Grady is extremely skilled and nuanced in his performance, giving each moment exactly what is needed....the exact stillness, breath, emotion and power.
