One of the best new works of genuine theatre I’ve seen in a long time. It had a cast of 7, some women, some nonbinary, all fantastic. The actors were tight and powerful, they moved us all to laughter and a few to tears, as they moved through the ages of adolescence, and motherhood. They process the aching that comes from coming of age, and have tender and gentle explorations of gender and sexuality. ...

A powerful bildungsroman about young girlhood. It's very hard to theatrically convey the awkwardness, confusion, and full-throated life of puberty but this show throws you right into the deep end. A dizzying whipsaw of crackling dialogue and sharper direction. Memorable characters, a simple but powerful set design, and a refreshing dash of authenticity make this play a powerful punch. ...

Girl Blood (a phenomenal piece)
I often find myself unaware of what it means to have a childhood. I, myself, don't quite remember much of anything before the age of 5 or 6. I came as a supportive family member and left as an emotional, vulnerable and appreciative spectator for the entire meaning of this production. You see, what Girl Blood represents (as much as the name might mislead you) is a portal which open to all eyes. This perfect portal provides parallel viewpoints reminding us all of what it means to grow up. As a man who grew up in a household of only females, a lot of what I saw rang true and struck an emotional chord within me serving me as a reminder to be grateful for the family and relationships that have held strong throug...

Very few topics in the world have consensus. However, I am willing to bet that all of us can agree that puberty is the pits. Sadly, females get an unequal added bonus in the form of menstruation. Sadly, aging is just harder when blood is involved. And Gillian O'Leary's play, Girl Blood, is proof of that.
With questions about sexuality and issues with parents and friends circling around, this 90-minute drama is not afraid to dive deep into discomfort. In fact, having characters freak out, cry, and even yell humanizes this very challenging time in an adolescent's life.
All seven of the characters collide in scenes at school and home while existential life questions circle overhead. Specifically, the play confronts how a person exists i...

A show as chaotic and messy and uncomfortable as puberty usually is
Definitely worth watching for anyone who's forgotten how overwhelming the age of 14 is, or who's tried to forget but can't...

Girl Blood is a poignant and thoughtful piece that bravely dives into complex, often difficult topics with honesty and heart. It doesn't shy away from emotional depth, and it communicates its message in a way that feels both raw and real. The performance was deeply genuine—full of feeling, purpose, and authenticity. Bravo to the creators and performers for such a heartfelt and moving production....
