An explosion of theatrical inventiveness and rock and roll energy, EXORCISTIC is not your average rock musical. I came to this show expecting a rollicking, clever, horror movie send-up, and though I did get that, I also got a wildly creative, meta-theatrical mind-trip that was shocking, hilarious, and inspiring, overflowing with talent and ecstatic rock-n-roll zeal. Kudos to Michael Shaw Fisher, Michael Teoli, and the fantastic live band for the insanely catchy melodies and director Pat Towne for choreographing the madness with fluidity. In a cast this good, it's tough to name standouts, but I'll try: Curt Bonnem's maniacal Captain Howdy had me laughing almost to the point of tears. I hate horror flicks, so I was a little nervous before I sat down to see Exorcistic. However, I saw Orgasmico's "Doomsday Cabaret" last year and was really impressed, so I thought I'd give this a shot. I'm glad I did. This show is a very clever, eloquently low-tech theatrical knockout. It is to the Exorcist what Scary Movie should have been to other horror movies. I laughed my ass off for 80 minutes straight. Laura Sperrazza absolutely steals the show as Megan O'Neil/herself/the demon. Musical numbers like "Your Cunting Daughter" and "Your Mother Sucks Cocks In Hell" mean it's not for the easily offended, but it's a well-executed, slick gutbuster. Don't miss it. ... full review

I saw this show in their first preview last night; so some of the tech/cues/music were a little off and the audience was half full... That being said, it was STILL a totally KICK ASS show! Which made it even more impressive. The entire cast is supremely talented at both acting and singing, including the writer, Mr. Michael Shaw Fisher. Laura Sperazza, in particular, fucking kills it! Nothing better than seeing someone commit fully with the chops to back it up. The fact that it was set up as a crudely thrown together musical parody made any deficits in the production easily forgivable, and I know that they'll only get stronger in the coming nights. A powerhouse musical parody that's full of high energy, humor and knock-put performances. This show is destined to be a hit at this year's Fringe. Personally, I can't watch horror films or psychological thrillers because they fuck with my head too much, so I'm only culturally familiar with Exorcist the book/movie. Coming to a parody of a piece I'm not familiar with always makes me skeptical, but there was enough humor and liveliness in this show that I stayed entertained throughout. This show is a non stop thrill. You would expect a great show with Michael Shaw Fisher's hilarious lyrics and catchy music in joint forces with Michael Teoli's full and rich orchestrations and rocking live band led by the ringmaster general himself, Pat Towne. What you get instead is an amazeballs show with some of LA Theatre's most talented performers and vocalists. I went to this show having not seen the Exorcist. With it being a parody, it was recommended to me to see it. But I'm glad I didn't force myself to sit through the movie, cause I didn't have to. :) The show stands on it's own and has it's own story to tell. Michael Shaw Fisher's EXORCISTIC: THE ROCK MUSICAL tornadoes the shingles off the roof. Voluptuous, catchy vocals pack every inch of this phantasmagoric ride. Laura Sperrazza spits performance from every pore. EXORCISTIC is a consciously campy love affair with one of the greatest horror films of all time. At the same time, amidst the hard-rock ridiculousness, it's a meta commentary on the playwriting biz... the aspirations and challenges of indie creators who seek to propel their stories to a bigger stage. Although much of the plot relies on viewers having previously seen The Exorcist and being infinitely familiar with the urban legends that flank it, the music wallops. Nothing is off limits with Orgasmico Theatre Company, but that's a good thing and it's particulary evident in their new show EXORCISTIC: THE ROCK MUSICAL PARODY EXPERIMENT. Laura Sperrazza shines as Megan, the little girl possessed by the demon we're all probably familiar with - and let me just say - SHE IS A STAR just waiting to be discovered. One incredible talent and SPOT ON. She shines along with the rest of her cast and everyone fully commits to the multiple roles they play. I wasn't a huge fan of the format of the show, going from a reading, to fringe, to the Pantages and at times it's nearly impossible to figure out what lyrics the cast are singing due to the fact that they're drowned out by the AMAZING on stage band.
