My first Hollywood Fringe show. Heck, my first one person show! Listening to Eric tell his story as Charlie felt like listening to a friend telling a gripping story of his past, warts and all. Eric wasn't acting. He became Charlie and I was truly on the edge of my seat waiting to hear how everything in his fictional life turned out. This was one of those rare shows that trusts the audience to find their own meaning, and it's all the better for it. I'm such a fan of Sarah's writing! I love how its not packed with exposition and gives you just enough information to let the imagination fill in the rest. A lot of the moments really live in the subtext or what's not being said. Overall I think this is a very sharp, clever, and well crafted story that feels incredibly relevant and slightly uncomfortable at times. This show is completely unhinged in the best possible way. The character feels genuinely original, and the whole thing plays like a surreal fever dream. The improvisation is great, and the clowning is delightfully chaotic. Beneath all the absurdity is a hilarious depiction of just how disconnected landlords can be. This was easily one of my favorite shows at Fringe. Veronica dives headfirst into the realities of postpartum with incredible honesty and absolutely no filter, and I admired the hell out of it. It's vulnerable, fearless, and outrageously funny, shining a light on an experience that doesn't get nearly enough attention. Hands down my favorite show at Fringe. Edib is completely locked into the audience from start to finish. You can feel them responding in real time. The concept of an intergalactic bathhouse is wildly inventive, and the impression of the ancestor absolutely steals the show. It's funny, heartfelt, and so thoughtfully put together. The show was witty, contemporary, and creative. It held my attention the entire time. The acting and costumes were fabulous, I didn’t even recognize the actor I came to see at first. Molly has a comedy voice that feels completely her own. She takes a familiar "pop star" persona and pushes it into delightfully weird territory. The audience is a huge part of the show, and somehow she gets everyone to lean in without it ever feeling forced. By the end, you're fully invested and rooting for her all at once. I loved how Jackie made it feel like we were stepping into an old burlesque club, only to surprise us with a totally original character.
