Hollywood Chola

eugene antonio negrete · June 27, 2026 uncertified reviewer
Hollywood Chola is an empowering solo show that speaks to the resistance, resilience and perseverance that actors of color often face within the midst of the entertainment industry. It also addresses the self-doubt that an artist can have as they navigate their "why" and ponder on what it is that that continues to propel their artmaking and purpose. Yelyna De Leon's stage presence commands the audience's attention and her versatility across monologue and song showcases her creativity and range. ... full review

Good Boys Anonymous

The show shares compelling, deeply personal stories that draw the audience into the circumstances and profound pain that often lie beneath so many people's "good boy" personas. Each story is heartbreaking, honest, and deeply moving, leaving the audience with a greater sense of compassion, empathy, and understanding for these characters. It is a powerful reminder that there is often far morebeneath the surface than we initially see. ... full review

With incredible wit and charm, Ben B challenges and perhaps, gently jabs, magicians who may not care about the audience as much as he does. His magic is original, breath-taking, and beautiful to behold. Ben also has terrific audience interaction and is supportive and kind to all the people who participate in the tricks.... full review

An absolute triumph! Hold That Thought While I Scream leaves the audience spellbound with its snappy (yet grounded) dialogue, delicate pacing, mesmerizing performances, and fearless exploration into the psychological effects of modern societal expectations. This character-centered show nods to great playwrights such as Martin McDonagh and Neil Simon, demonstrating how much drama, humor, and truth can be uncovered between two actors in just one location. It cleverly subverts the typical therapist-... full review

It was a poignant story about the woes of love. On the quest for true love, Nick meets someone who gradually uproots his entire life. This play showed the true scale of dealing with someone who experiences narcissistic disorder and while the story made me laugh when I needed it most, it also made me walk away with more compassion for anyone in similar situations. Getting out isn’t easy and a strong support system really does change everything. The writing was funny, realistic and I never once loo... full review

Doll Court was one of my favorite theater/comedy experiences of my life. It will stay with me forever. I hope I get to see this show again someday. Why do so many of us stop playing with toys as we grow up? Who is telling us to stop and why?? I think Doll Court makes a strong case for adults to keep playing with toys and not lose our sense of whimsy. Life is too damn short to not be whimsical. Thank you Doll Court for reminding me.... full review

Goody was a party in the woods with my best witchy friends. Elena is such a standout when it comes to audience engagement in a way that is as playful, as it is meaningful to who Goody is as a character. I wanna be friends with Goody, just as much as I want to throw tomatoes at her. Right from the start, Elena grabbed my attention without saying a word for wayyyyy longer than expected. This show made me like the pick-me girl and had my attention the whole time. A masterclass in crowd work, and a s... full review
