Gus and Connie are two black senior citizens waiting to find out if they will have to serve on a jury. Given their similarities in age and race, their opinions on the topic wind up being surprisingly different – as different as confrontation and consensus. Still, something is happening between them… something unexpected in the way they affect each other. They spend the time learning about each other’s quirks, families and the importance of civic duty.
As these two strangers explore whether or not they have a connection, this world premiere one-act written and directed by Carol M. Becker also illuminates how their differences spark a much deeper conversation about what it means to serve an underserved and too frequently neglected community.
