I am always looking to discover more of myself in the art that I experience. Searching for the nuance of the depth of my soul that exists in the silence, to feel less alone in this world. Black Bastard spoke to the boy in me that needed to be seen and heard. It mirrored back to me the man that I am and the Being that I've always been. Great poetic expression of coming home to self. I am grateful. ... full review

This show is absolutely phenomenal, on every level. I was blown away by Jon's performance -- his ability to embody a wide range of characters from different aspects of his life is incredible to watch. His story is beautifully crafted, with endearing moments of levity and emotional gut punches that are deeply moving and thought provoking.... full review

Wow! What a way to tell your truth. Jon took us on a journey through his life. I loved the way he involved the audience in major decision points in his life. What choice should he make? There were poignant periods that made me sad. But just before the tears could fall, Jon made me laugh again! Only a masterful storyteller like Jon, could keep one on such an emotional roller coaster. I can’t wait to experience his next work.... full review

THIS is how you do an autobiographical solo show! Starting with the script, Jon Gentry's writing is lyrical and poetic, while also engaging and just plain fun; the opening lines put us on alert that we are listening to a well-studied and serious performer, who then quickly and playfully delves us into his upbringing. The story is exquisitely crafted, not just in hitting the high notes of his life, but in how the through thread lies subtly under the surface until blossoming at the end. And as a performer Jon deftly holds our attention moment to moment, the whole audience hangs on his every word. And I have rarely seen a solo show so well directed--Shinelle Azoroh's masterful crafting of the staging, prop use, music and Jon's performance i... full review
