A PLATINUM MEDAL!!!
"A perfect show.... The first Platinum Medal of HFF23."
Getting There! is unique in two aspects. First is O’Brien’s writing which is executed with a briefness and a beauty that echoes Haiku poetry. I am hard-pressed to recall a solo show with less language that has said so much. ...

It is a show about connections for me. It is about a friend's journey. It is a play of reality. A story about observation, understanding and surviving....

"Getting There" by Rebecca O'Brien is one of the brightest and most beautiful theatrical experiences I've ever enjoyed. Imagine going through chemo and having to take the city bus to treatment. Instead of bemoaning her fate, Rebecca O'Brien embraces it and befriends passengers on the bus and makes them family. She also does it with her little service dog, Stella, whose sweetness brings even the most cranky of bus riders together. ...

Getting There is almost an anti-Waiting for Godot, not least because she finds herself not at all alone, and refusing to ignore that fact. May we all have the courage and kindness to do the same. I found myself admiring Rebecca as I would a war hero. Or, any kind of hero, really. ...

Heartfelt, harrowing, witty, touching and sublimely human. What a talented, resilient, strong, funny, empathetic soul Rebecca O'Brien revealed as she welcomed the audience to travel this journey with her. A beautiful reminder that there is good in the world, for those willing to take the time to look. I will long remember this show, along with Dorothy, Violet, Annie, & all the passengers that Rebecca portrayed & encountered along her route. Team Rebecca!...

I greatly enjoyed "Getting There"! It was witty, funny, poignant and so well-crafted. Rebecca was on point throughout the show, keeping us, the audience, engaged the whole time-laughing, crying, feeling deeply and learning.
She moves from character to character seamlessly and each character is unique with a distinct point of view.
Rebecca shares not only humor and poignancy, but wisdom, for connecting with others and for living life well. She and her show are an inspiration!...

From an FRINGE alum: Rebecca comes on with a bang and then uses the next 60 minutes to take you on an incredible journey into waiting rooms, Bristol Farms and the #217 bus ...all the while making you laugh, cry and laugh/cry.
The variety of characters Rebecca introduces you to and her vocal range are endlessly entertaining.

I absolutely adored the show. It is a testament to humans reaching out to humans. Rebecca’s journey through cancer treatment is not the emphasis of the show. Rather a beautiful story of , her connection, a connection from one human being , one soul, no matter how damaged to another, is important. A triumphant and poignant story....
