Hey Hollywood, My Hustle Has ADHD

One of Rasika's MUST SEE shows! To me, this show is a story of actualization--and all those things that get in the way on the road to fulfillment and meaning. Rasika brings a rawness to the stage, her performance is real, in the moment, intense and honest, and I loved riding the ADHD waves with her. It was funny! But I also found myself tearing up and relating so much to the yearning, frustration, and the fuck you feelings that come up. Loved it! The subtle and brilliant trick to “Hey, Hollywood…” is that - being a show about having ADHD - it actually has ADHD. Rasika Mathur uses storytelling and improv to walk through her recent ADHD diagnosis as liberating knowledge that has led to an understanding of why things in her past hadn’t turned out so well. But there’s an underlying and constant truth beneath that acceptance as she cleverly weaves a touching metaphor of one who cannot go in the “right” direction, performed as a wayward sea turtle teetering on the edge of a cliff, amongst the very funny scenes she sets of opportunities missed or blown. Rasika is a powerhouse performer that folks need to see. She's so comfortable onstage and such a good improviser (she casts audience members and is so incredibly present with them). She's fun... deep... FUNNY... and touching (sniff... there's a beautiful baby turtle through-line which was a lovely decision in regards to structuring the show). Not sure what she'll do next, but I'd watch a sketch-style solo show from her in a heartbeat, but who knows what she has up her sleeve... or... what the world/this industry has in store for her. ... full review

I found the show fascinating, especially as we had brought a teen relative who may have ADHD with us to the show. The bell rang and the lights went of. It was also interesting to see the levels of ADHD within ourselves, and seeing something like this is the first step on dealing with it. So the show was enlightening and entertaining and a great start to the Fringe Festival. I just wish there was a show from the other side: Hey Hollywood, I’ve Got To Deal With An Actor with ADHD! Hustle was directed and developed by Deana Barone (FB), who worked on last Fringe’s 30JJ or Bust.... full review

Can you say "Hilarious?" This is one of those shows that keeps you so engaged, the hour flies by. And I think I might have ADHD...wtf!!! Another disorder to add to my list. But hey, the show is educational and hilarious!... full review
