My overall impression

The subtle and brilliant trick to “Hey, Hollywood…” is that – being a show about having ADHD – it actually has ADHD. Rasika Mathur uses storytelling and improv to walk through her recent ADHD diagnosis as liberating knowledge that has led to an understanding of why things in her past hadn’t turned out so well. But there’s an underlying and constant truth beneath that acceptance as she cleverly weaves a touching metaphor of one who cannot go in the “right” direction, performed as a wayward sea turtle teetering on the edge of a cliff, amongst the very funny scenes she sets of opportunities missed or blown. There’s an almost anti-solo-show, pleasantly unkempt feel about the evening which she rides with ease and unapologetic enthusiasm. Thus the show itself is ADHD, and a wonderfully crafted, truthful theatrical experience. Very fun and enlightening.

Can we ever stop paying for the past? Can the person we want to be ever escape the person we are now and were then? What price must be paid for not only our own crimes, but those of people close to us?
