It's not everyday you see a romantic comedy done onstage. Emergency Operation is a loving nod to those classic rom coms you know, but with an added theatrical suspension of disbelief. Utilizing magical realism ala John Cariani's Almost Maine, we see a man undergo a heart procedure following a breakup with his girlfriend. But much like the heart, this is far more complex than it first appears. You can take away the memories and the pain, but the risk of remembering never goes away. Jess Moore and Ben Bergstrom play these two conflicted lovers with conviction and humor. Both characters have their faults, but we can't help but pull for them throughout. They are supported by an outstanding ensemble filled with overbearing parents (Sigute Miller ... full review

I saw, and loved, the original 10 minute version of this play at PlayGround LA and I have to give Lauren major props for this expansion. I'm a writer so I know that turning a 10 minute piece (that works!) into a 65 minute piece (that still works!) is HARD. This was also a technically challenging piece with set changes throughout but the transitions were smooth and you stay engaged and laughing the whole time. Very fun show! ... full review

We’ve all been at this point in our lives. We’ve all had our hearts broken by someone. What if there was an operation you could have where all of that pain, anger, hatred, and betrayal could be removed? If only it were that easy. This is the premise of “Emergency Operation”. After his operation, the memories of what happened are gone and he can start fresh, but can everyone around him do the same? This show takes delicate subject matter and twists it around to make it funny for the most part. Don’t get me wrong, there are definite tr... full review

Dealt with heartbreak in an entertaining way, weaving grounded, relatable relationship woes with comedy and elements of the absurd. Reminiscent of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (that's a good thing in my book!), but finds its own angle. I really enjoyed and had fun at this show!... full review
