This review first appeared on stageraw.com. THREE MUSKETEERERS, Clowns With Swords Reviewed by Neal Weaver The Actor’s Company Through June 28. RECOMMENDED: Three agile and athletic but dim-witted clowns (Mauricio Gomez, Jeffrey Heapy and Alec Tomkiw) in whiteface and blue boots set out to tell their story. Their inept attempts to put on their costumes (Gomez zips himself in the zipper of his 16th Century pantaloons) make it clear that a sustained narrative is beyond their powers. Then a woman (Cassandra Gonzalez, alternating with Lisa Labella) arrives, bearing a sliver of plot: She has received a mysterious letter from Cardinal Richelieu that confers authority on its bearer. The three men try desperately to capture ... full review

Incredibly physical, playful, and absurd, this show offers lots of fun through its movement and bits!... full review

This is a strong showing of physical theatre for the HFF, and not just because the men are doing flips across boxes over a concrete floor. All four performers know that to entertain a live audience means to be available to all the physical impulses happening in the moment. There are wonderful asides, cartoon-esque routines, restoration comedy soliloquies, and a drive towards something we as an audience aren't quite able to grasp. This will come over time. Give the performers a few more nights (and earlier hours) and this show will snap, crackle and pop!... full review

THE THREE MUSKETEERERS – CLOWNS WITH SWORDS (Gold Medal) Mauricio Gomez as Pono, Jeff Heapy as Klaus, Alec Tomkiw as Hugo and Cassandra Gonzalez as Sookie are featured in this absolutely inspired broil of swashbuckling silliness and clowning in the truest sense of the word. As they gyrate and gambol about the stage, there is no missing in their performance the style and masterful physical tomfoolery of people who take clowning very seriously. Watching their antics one is almost intoxicated by the mirth. For more of my reviews of the Hollywood Fringe go to: The TVolution.com ... full review

The physicality was truly impressive. These people know how to clown. The story was limited, but time and clowning make that inevitable. It is well worth seeing!... full review

Clowns with Swords is a much meatier enterprise than most. No simple jesters allowed. Belly laughs will be scarce. Expect instead to be sufficiently captivated and sometimes appalled but ultimately entertained by this piece.
