Lady Into Fox

This is Fringe at its best. An intimate, metatheatrical, intelligently directed, honestly performed piece that attempts to engage the audience at every turn. All three performers connect with the audience, never an easy feat in the round, but Claire Kaplan gives a vivaciously vixen performance that should be noted for an HFF award. "Lady into Fox" takes its audience on a disarming journey of love, animality, and identity, and while the dramaturgy needs some attention, the care with which this piece has been constructed speaks volumes for where this company will go. ... full review

I loved it. This is everything theatre can be. It's evocative, provocative, immersive; it's fiction covering truth. It can only be live theatre, and it's why live theatre is necessary and unique. It is the complexity of love and the simplicity of adoration. It says the things that are and aren't. It relates us to a distant idea we all share. I loved it.... full review

Absolutely wonderful theatre! Love the "story-time-in-the-living-room" feel of it all. Sitting together as a group on pillows on the floor, it felt less like theatre and more like an experience. The actors are adorable and fantastic and really bring you in to the whole experience. Have not been to a more cozy show. Go see this one! Just lovely!!!... full review

Truly a beautiful and profound experience! This is a wonderful show that invites the audience to immerse themselves in the wonder of imaginative storytelling. The tiny cast of 3 creates a world and takes you on a journey that will keep you thinking for days to come. I knew nothing about the show and no one in the cast before seeing the show. Lady Into Fox explores what it means to be human, what it means to be animal, and the complications that occur from being both simultaneously. The show uses a plaintive, conversational tone to convey a story that is at once miraculous and realistic. Theatre as expression is an interwoven thread of the heart, mind, and body of the play…in this case, a novella from the early 20th century. Prose into performance…never an easy task, but handled deftly and with great care by Interrobang Departure, Lady into Fox bounds along at an effortless pace, taking the audience along with them. The style is a blend of presentation, casual sharing, and acting…all of it simple, straightforward and engaging. Never mean in spirit, or vicious in attack, the adaptation, by Samuel Hunter, choses a high road of moral compass, but is never preachy. The show moves lightly along, dipping into and out of the lives of the characters, exposing not only episodes, but the soul of the participants in each instance... full review

I don't know what show Loulou In_LA saw (or what the hell their problem is), but what I saw tonight was a beautifully put-together, and unique production featuring three very strong and endearing performances. And this is coming from someone that has *no* connection to the cast or crew, other than a passing familiarity with their previous productions (#Hashtag, Making Love Over There, and Spring Awakening). (Okay, I know it's rude to bag on another patron, but I am stunned not only by the unnecessarily mean nature of their critique, but the utter ignorance displayed by it, as well.
