To see this show is to fall in love with Kyla Garcia. She sparkles, she shines, she gives an explosion of emotional color and vocal music that weaves the air like magic and pulls people to their feet, professing their love and devotion. It's a show that makes the audience feel cared for, infatuated and even a little aroused. She plays dozens of roles, each better than the next. You are hard pressed to find a better solo performance at this years Hollywood Fringe. Kyla is real star, with a disco-ball heart. ("Did he just say "disco-ball heart?" Yes, he did. BOOOOOM!) ... full review

Garcia's storytelling ability is the stuff of legends, and her ease at slipping from one character to the next makes you want to sit, listen and watch her all day. But not only is she a brilliant actress but she is also a dancer, and intersperses her interpretive dance throughout the performance. Check out the rest of the review at Examiner.com. ... full review

I'm going to be honest and say that one person shows are a tough sell for me - I am one of those people who almost always needs interplay in order to be really engaged. That being said, "The Mermaid Who Learned How to Fly" is EXCELLENT. I really, really enjoyed it. The characterizations are exceptional - I think part of the reason I enjoyed this show so much is that I honestly felt like I was watching a multi-person cast. Kyla Garcia is a truly talented actress. If you're already a fan of solo shows, seeing this one should be a no-brainer. If you're like me and you don't typically gravitate towards them, do yourself a favor and check this one out.... full review

Kyla Garcia is a tremendously charismatic performer who gets at the heart of her story and brings it home to her audience with wit, aplomb and talent to spare. This show is for anyone who's been in love, had their hearts broken or broken hearts, risked their dreams to live in that love and seen the price that they were willing to pay for it. Go see it! ... full review

In terms of acting, Kyla's work is impeccable. Her seamless transitions from one character to the next we clear and distinct. It went beyond physical gesture, to the point she was truly embodying each character to the point you left feeling as if an entire cast had been on stage. Not many actors could pull that off, especially with the emotional range and depth of performance. Those fluid transitions and economical choreography is a testament to the director, Jessica Johnson, as well. In regards to the writing, Ms. Garcia's language painted a visual picture so very appropriate for the setting, theme, and subject of the show. It was fantastical language with flirtatious and humorous edges. A true delight to listen to. As a com... full review
