If I were a mermaid, I would have swam to the very deepest depths of the Sea, found the most beautiful oyster, gently opened it up and found Kyla Garcia, the most beautiful pearl in the entire ocean! Kyla Garcia's beautiful and incredibly moving story "The Mermaid Who Learned How to Fly" is not only flawlessly written, but performed with such energy and passion that I felt that I had learned how to fly myself by the end of her miraculous show! Kyla is a gem! Keep your eyes and ears out for her now and in the future!! ... full review

Kyla did a wonderful job telling the story of THE MERMAID WHO LEARNED HOW TO FLY. Her show started at 10pm, which is late for me for a Friday as I had a very long day already but she bought lots of energy and charm to her character and her story that perked me up right away. She used her body, her voice, and just one scarf to make this one hour show interesting. Her story will stay with me for quite some time and I will make sure to keep all the fairies alive for future generations to come. :-)... full review

We go to the theatre to be told great stories, to be taken on a journey, and to see magic happen right before our eyes. Kyla Garcia blows the audience away with her ability to fulfill not only those desires, but takes you on a ride (or flight) you'll be thinking about for days. What good art should do. Her writing is truthful, from the heart, poetic, with the ability to make you feel like it was written just for you. And her performance of the material is even more awe-inspiring. Watching this show you deeply feel for the central character's conflict as well as celebrate her discoveries. But what I most took away from this show was gratitude, because once you witness this woman tackle the amazing feat of powerful writing, vibrant movement, d... full review

Absolutely loved this show!!! Kyla's ability to keep the energy up, portray the emotion, and bring extremely distinct characters to life through subtle changes in facial expression, body language, and voice, without hesitation, was amazing!!! The show brought together fantasy and reality in a perfect balance and I would certainly recommend that anyone that has ever dreamed see this show. ... full review

This show really stayed with me after i saw it! It was captivating and moving . Kyla shifts from one character to the next beautifully . Her fairy godmother character narrates the story in a fun , playful and moving way and the main character Victoria is one we can all relate to in one way or another, i mean who hasn't been heartbroken, lost and in search of an answer when it comes to love?… I highly recommend this show, it is wonderfully written and directed. Go see it! ... full review

This show did everything a great piece of art should do - it moved me, it inspired me, it made me laugh, it made me cry and it made me reflect! Kyla is a top notch performer; she did not miss a beat and brought every character to life completely. The writing and directing were spot on as well. This is a don't miss show!... full review

Yes, yes, yes. Best show I've seen at the Fringe so far. Check this out. Everything a great solo performance should be. Kyla owns the stage and takes us along for the ride. Full of theatrical magic and simple brilliance, "The Mermaid Who Learned How To Fly" is a transcendent, intimate, touching, funny and profound lightning rod of a play. A definite must-see of this year's Fringe festival. ... full review

To see this show is to fall in love with Kyla Garcia. She sparkles, she shines, she gives an explosion of emotional color and vocal music that weaves the air like magic and pulls people to their feet, professing their love and devotion. It's a show that makes the audience feel cared for, infatuated and even a little aroused. She plays dozens of roles, each better than the next. You are hard pressed to find a better solo performance at this years Hollywood Fringe. Kyla is real star, with a disco-ball heart. ("Did he just say "disco-ball heart?" Yes, he did. BOOOOOM!) ... full review

Garcia's storytelling ability is the stuff of legends, and her ease at slipping from one character to the next makes you want to sit, listen and watch her all day. But not only is she a brilliant actress but she is also a dancer, and intersperses her interpretive dance throughout the performance. Check out the rest of the review at Examiner.com. ... full review
