Go see this show.
An alien crash-lands on Earth and speaks only in hoop. That’s it. That’s the setup. And somehow it becomes one of the funniest, clever, most heartfelt pieces of theater I’ve seen in years.
I laughed. A lot. And tried not to cry.
But what sneaks up on you is the feeling underneath it all. Through a hula hoop, an alien is trying to solve the same problem every human being is: how do we fill the empty space? How do we connect? How do we belong? But the connection is all in the subtext.
RM is an absolute force onstage—playful, fearless, hilarious, and completely original. I’ve never seen anyone use a hula hoop the way they do. By the end, it doesn’t feel like a prop. It feels like a language and purpose.

I loved this performance and it is a stellar example of what modern-clowning is, should be, and is going - a happy joyful and extraterrestrial journey with solo clown work - and their rainbow hoop. Mentalism and clown meet as this being tries to fix the whole HOLE on planet earth. A very sweet feel good silly clown trying to understand humans and earthlings. A must must see, I fear !! A sold out crowd who wanted nothing more than to see this very beloved performer blow us out of this world . And baby, we blasted off and left as better people. ...

This was one of those rare shows that trusts the audience to find their own meaning, and it's all the better for it. Beneath the surreal clowning is a surprisingly sharp reflection on what it means to be human... our need to connect, our fear of being misunderstood, and the ways we keep missing each other. Every unexpected turn somehow adds to that feeling instead of pulling away from it. I laughed a lot, but by the end I found myself unexpectedly emotional. It's weird, beautiful, and quietly profound....

RM's gift has always been to take a simple idea, infuse it with child-like wonder, and then take you on a journey where you constantly think "how did I have so much fun on something so silly?". Hoop might well be the apex of their work. RM was spellbinding and engaging but in a soft and friendly way. The middle-aged version of me loved it but the 10 year old version would have too....

R.M immediately captured our imagination and took us to a place where all time and space meet inside their hoop....

R.M. Aranda has created a joyous clown show where an energy/mind-reading "Hoop Alien" visits earth, and with an eager audience, they discover what's wrong and right about this insane world in which we live. Looking into Aranda's eyes is magical and for a brief period of time, you're transported far away from planet earth. This solo clown show, which is still in development by its artist, is as sweet as it is spellbinding. I cannot wait to see what Aranda creates or to see what worlds they visit next.
Endearing and uplifting....

RM has created a clown show about struggling to connect with and communicate through language. The perfect thing about the show is that you're not sure what they're trying to say - and that is the absolute poetic beauty of it. It perfectly encapsulates having this feeling of otherness, but also having this need to connect, and the collision of these two forces produces this beautiful, psychedelic clown show. Everything that goes wrong (as things are wont to do in clown shows) contributes to this central thesis in such a sublime way. Honestly, I was really moved and cried a tear at the end....
