I try to take things moment to moment, especially with abstract movement pieces. I let it wash over me. Loved the care and trust the ensemble had for each other and for the work. Fun :)... full review

Move over Cirque Du Soleil, LEMON BOOTS is a fringey, creative devised dance piece that's fun for audiences of all ages. This 16 person emsemble really knows how to move, and that's the fun of this piece, just getting to see what the actors will do with their bodies next. It's clear that these guys love theatre, love each other, and have committed to making a great piece of physical theatre. With a little more polish to this piece I would have "loved it" - as the show stands right now it lacks a clear story arc, and it relies too much on audience participation at the end to really "work". I was disappointed with this show. From the pictures and the description I had high hopes. This show seemed to be nothing more than a series of acting exercises strung together. As an actor, I say, great work! However, the work done in the classroom is a foundation to build on and get inspiration from, not something that necessarily should be shared with an audience. This performance felt masturbatory. The actors knew what was happening, and were having an experience, but the audience was alienated from that experience, not invited to share in it despite the attempts to the contrary. WHAT A FABULOUS SHOW! Lemon Boots is a masterpiece of movement. It is visually stunning. You are drawn into and feel apart of their world. The ensemble cast does an amazing job. They are so connected and present. Such beautiful movements. And I love the fact that I was able to form my own thoughts and take whatever feelings I wanted to from the show. Lemon Boots is a breath of fresh air. It's a fantastic show with beautiful symbolism and images. I loved the simplicity of the story and how no plot was strongly being pushed in this production of the show. It was lovely seeing how they (the ensemble of artists) had to be inventive with their set and technical side. The only major pieces of criticism that I had are very small and sometimes out of their control. I wanted more from the production value, as in the lights and design of the set. Again, that is out of their control. Its fringe. The show isn't perfect: that's the beauty of the show. My last piece of criticism is the polishing of a few moments here and there. Lemon Boots was an enjoyable production, and I think I can best describe it as a theatrical exploration. The plot isn't as important as the experience and the feelings that come up as one watches. Segments of it could have used a little more polish, but the parts that were successful (and there are many) left me fully immersed and filled with a childlike sense of wonder that was more than worth the ticket price. One thing that I wish could have had more work put into was that the choreography and/or movement to music was off at times- it wasn't always in tune or on beat, which dulled some potentially impressive moments. Being a Theatrical Competition Judge for more than 10 years allows me to look at theatrical pieces from a deeper perspective and review on a more critical level than the average person. Although the theater was a little warm during the midday, Lemon Boots was truly an amazing show! I haven't seen something like this in quite a while. The ensemble put so much passion, energy, and talent into this show! Their connection to each part of the show and with each other was very strong. The variety of music, physical movement, and choreography was exceptionally creative and appealing. I had no expectations going into this show, but I wasn't surprised to discover afterwards that it was workshopped in a college class. It looks like a college class - in that some parts don't seem as polished as others, and there's no real cohesive structure or theme. That said, there are some really lovely moments of choreography and imagery, and the performers clearly give it their all (one dude in a particular is a phenomenal acrobatic dancer - I wish they'd utilized him more). I liked the music quite a bit. I could have done without the audience participation - it's unnecessary and not always clear what they want you to do, which lends to some dull moments of confusion and anxiety.
