THE CONDUCT OF LIFE

Oh for F&*('s sake. This production wormed its way under my skin, smacked my viscera around and left me gobsmacked. Completely committed, raw performances, stark, searing direction, dark humor. I don't know if I enjoyed it, but damn if it ain't a reminder of how powerful theater can be. ... full review

Hands down the best show I've seen at the Fringe (including my own). Deanna's character work and clowning is seamless, her interaction with and gentle direction of the audience is welcoming and playful, and the whole thing is just fun. For about an hour, she works with the audience to co-create a noir story...then, ultimately, hands it, and her character, over to us as a gift. Amazing stuff--thank you!... full review

WHITE HOT

I was talking to a friend about this show this morning and she asked "What's it about?" I had no answer for her. A plot synopsis would be fairly useless for this show. And yet it's completely engrossing, challenging, raw, brutal and visceral. From the moment the audience steps into the space, we're immersed in the world of White Hot. It's dark, it's twisted and it's filled with words that dart around the theater at unbelievable speed while still managing to be wholly understandable. The amazing p... full review

BOBBYWOOD: WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BOBBY THE BELLBOY?

So this is not an objective review at all--I've known Bill for a while, we travel in the same storytelling circles, he's a friend. All that said: this show isn't like anything I've ever seen him do before. Watching Bill inhabit the various characters--his parents, his aunt, Uncle Bobby and others is like watching a Nascar driver expertly shift gears. The story itself is stirring, poignant without diving into melodrama. Bill is an effortlessly engaging storyteller and his tale swept me along on a ... full review

The Pokemusical

Full disclosure: I used to watch Pokemon twice a week. So please take that into account when I say that this show has absolutely no right to be as amazingly fun as it is. It is a musical. About Pokemon. It should suck. But it doesn't. Instead it's an extremely well written and performed legitimately hilarious musical that manages the tough trick of being both an homage and satire. The book is clever without being overly winky, the music is toe-tappingly good and the committed performances channel... full review

Cleaner Than Blood

What starts as a Tarantino-esque scene between two guys in a cellar twists, turns and transforms into something much deeper and more moving over the course of a tight hour. The direction is crisp, creating a palpable sense of tension that intensifies as secrets are revealed. And all three performances are fully committed, making these characters come to life in all their darkness, struggle and tragedy. A damn fine show that deserves an audience. If you're looking for something on the engrossingly... full review

VOICES IN MY HEAD: A LIFE***

Not too much to add to the well-deserved raves; this is a damn fine, well crafted show. Engaging, moving, funny. And it left me wanting to know more; each 10 minute or so section could easily be expanded into its own full length show without showing any strain. Well done!... full review
