INFORMATION ABOUT LOUD KARMA PRESIDENT, GRACE JASMINE, Grace Jasmine writes theatre, film, fiction, and nonfiction. Jasmine’s play, The Masher—received The Hollywood Encore! Producers’ Award and was chosen Quarterfinalist, for the ScreenCraft Stage Play Contest for 2021, and placed #4 All Time for the Horror Stage Play on the Red List on Coverfly. Her Screenplay, Get a Life, won Quarterfinalist at the Hollywood International Screenplay Awards. Jasmine also recently won the 2024 Tempe Writing Contest for Fiction in cooperation with Arizona State University.
Other theatre writing credits include: Rainbows, Tim Doran, composer (Jasmine wrote, directed, and starred in this show, which was produced first in multiple venues in Los Angeles and then off-off Broadway); The Lover-A Tale of Obsessive Love, Ron Barnett, composer (Lonny Chapman Theatre premier). Jasmine wrote two original musicals that premiered in summer 2017, at the Hollywood Fringe Festival: Sybil’s Closet and F**ked Up Fairy Tales. WeHo Times called the song, “Love is Love” Jasmine wrote (With David Anthony, composer) for F**ked Up Fairy Tales “…an incredible song that it merits a place among the classics of musical theatre.” (WeHo Times, July 2, 2017).
Jasmine is currently collaborating with a composer on her new musical black comedy, SKIN DEEP—which is slated for a 2028 opening. Jasmine is also collaborating on another full-length musical called WHETHER GIRL with composer, Nat Elder. Jasmine just had a successful reading at the Dramatists Guild of her new play, The Flourishing.
Jasmine has currently completed two new screenplays, Ghosting and Lit Chicks, as well as a middle-grade novel: The Island House. Jasmine holds an MFA in Creative Writing and Screenwriting from the University of California at Riverside, is a native Californian living with her family of humans and pack of wild dogs. Jasmine’s production company LOUD KARMA PRODUCTIONS is hosting this year’s award: The Loud Karma Emerging Female and Nonbinary Playwright Award—2026 for the fourth year in a row. We are dedicated to producing works of emerging and marginalized artists who find themselves overlooked for reasons that have nothing to do with their talent. Our mission is to support emerging women artists and artists of any gender who are marginalized because of age, disability, gender, or ethnicity. We support the LGBTQ+ community and are an ally business.
For the fourth year in a row, Loud Karma Productions will seek out the best and most promising emerging female and nonbinary playwrights to award at the festival. This year, our upcoming project—“She Says—the Women’s Voices Project” will seek to expand the opportunities for our winners to showcase their work. Additionally, the Loud Karma Talks Theatre! Podcast has begun this year and offers interviews to talented playwrights to get attention and a spotlight on their work as writers for the theatre.
Finally, the winner and runners up of this award will have their shows passed on to an Southern California Equity Regional Theatre for possible inclusion in a New Works Equity Reading Program. 2024’s winner, Starr Shapiro’s play Obsessed was also chosen for this additional honor!
