In a very impressive piece of writing, Vince Tula takes us on a journey through a world of oppression and anxiety that, rather closely in many ways, resembles the culture currently surrounding us. Imaginative and innovative, Pit of Hope charts a unique course in storytelling that just hit every beat for me. The characters are all cogs in the machine that are revealed on multiple levels, as every character fits the dysfunctional society from one angle or another; and at some point every character,...

In classic Mike Hadge fashion, this hilarious and instructive send-up doesn't just ridicule, but it also tosses a lifeline to anyone who has, perhaps unknowingly, slipped into cartoonish cynicism, living in a world of self-important assumptions, regarding many around them that they haven't taken the time to get to know. This show tackles it all and guides the characters to eventually finding their peace. ...

Unsurprisingly, James Byous, along with the entire cast and band, blew the doors off and melted faces in this unique, soul-searching, gut-wrenching, and preeminent story told in just the right way. I was so impressed with James' songwriting and Stein Malvey's arrangements. Everyone in the cast has their moment. ...

Inventive, heartbreaking, funny, poignant, Aaron Francis' script keeps us in intriguing anticipation the whole way though, and Jen DeRosa and Jules Bruff carry the load, spinning yarns towards oblivion; even if there is perhaps a solution that hasn't occurred to them yet. Betsy and Patty Find Out is a choice thought-experiment of a story that challenges our own views about ourselves and of that within society that is taken for granted in many ways as being reality. What do we really know about th...

A hurricane of Hal comes at you non-stop in this hilarious and introspective look at, just one example of specific insanity, we are learning seems to be emblematic of this bizarre world we all have been thrust into. Through all the twists and turns, Hal's shrewd exuberance ebbs and flows, as he recounts one shocking memory after the next; luckily we are all laughing too hard to delve too deeply into the damage done perhaps, by well-meaning, but very flawed parents. Maybe the point is, it's this k...

In this absolute blast of a show, we are all swept away to the dank and deep of the Caribbean, so much so that I could smell the sea air and coral and hear the seagulls too. Inventive vocal arrangements and a plethora of instrumentation mixed in as well, culminated in an nicely balanced and charming show, that I could easily see playing 4 or 5 times a day at any appropriately themed Park, Ren Faire, Cruise Ship, or Pub corner. Or even Vegas! ...

Raw honesty personified and a poignant look at the challenges that just seem to dart at us from endless directions in the absurd and cruel society we all live in. Sprouting out from all the pain however, is undeniable and glorious optimism and a measured acceptance that cuts deep, and gently urges us to carry on. Marrissa Rutka dares to dig through it all, baring and exposing an upbringing of a tender soul out of sorts, that you feel like you've known for quite a while by the end. It certainly tu...

I didn't have a clue what to expect walking into this musical, but the charm and heart was evident from the very first note. There is a wonderful dynamic that Ben Boquist's music brings to the stage that simply delights, and Ben's Viking Trip is a special addition to this year's Fringe Fest. Ben is a true musical theatre composer with a distinctive voice and charisma. He knows how to tell a simple and honest story, but with musical complexity, clever harmonies, and endless spirit. You're always i...

I've said it before and I'll say it again, we are all beyond lucky to have Michael Shaw Fisher putting pen to paper. It's been 13 years now since Doomsday and this guy continues to reach deep into his well of, seemingly infinite creativity, creating dynamic pure story, honest and overwhelming, and with Rabbits he's blown our minds once again. ...
