Sex and the Musical

Great show. Great music. I've only seen maybe 1 or 2 episodes of Sex and the City, but even I could tell who everyone was based solely on the excellent casting. And the fun script and music played on the few tropes of the original show I could remember and I'm sure many more for true fans of Sex and the City as well as musicals in general. ... full review

Quantum Entanglement

I wanted this to extend if only so that Payden had to keep his beard just a little longer. Haha! It is a great piece (as all of Katelyn Schiller's Fringe shows have been) and am happy to see that it's continuing beyond the Fringe. i know it was a personal story for her and it really hit on so many levels.... full review

The Sacred Beasts

Such a great show (and not just because I did the artwork for their program). I was more excited about this show, based solely on the concept, than any other show I saw at the 2017 Fringe -- and it did not disappoint in the least bit. Top notch acting, writing and direction - heck, even the costumes were spot on! Do not miss this last extended performance!... full review

BEYOND - Unemployed. Finally.

I loved loved LOVED this show! I meant to write a review right when I got home from the show on June 27th, but it's been a crazy couple of weeks. As I think about what to write, I'm struck about how in my memory it feels like I watched a fully produced play with a cast of about 15 characters (albeit characters that all looked like Heather Dowling), In reality, it was a basic black box theatre featuring a one-woman show. This just goes to show how good this show was and how talented its writer/... full review

BLOOD, A Voodoo Love Story

There's a lot to like about Blood, a Voodoo Love Story: The acting. The script. The direction. I was disappointed to see that it's not a part of the Encore series, but I hope that some version of this play (hopefully with the original cast) finds wider release soon! I liked the way that Maria Tomas and Phrederic Semaj create a whole cast of characters during the hour, even though they're the only two people on stage. They employ techniques that I've only seen in one-person shows to tell this v... full review

I'm Not From Here

This is a great show! My only regret is that I saw it during its second to last show so I wasn't able to get more people to see it! So many different facets of Jessie's art are combined to tell a very real narrative that at times reminded me of some of the best performance art that Andy Kaufman used to do -- that's not to say that it was derivative of Kaufman's work -- just that it gave me to the same feeling of misdirect when things happened that Kaufman was famous for. With her deadpan humor... full review

Murder Blood Bear Story

I've been fortunate enough to get to know Katelyn a bit since Fringe started and her show did not disappoint in the least. From the moment she timidly (and hysterically) makes her way onto stage, up until the shocking ending, she kept the small audience in the Elephant Lab on the edge of our seats! Several different characters emerge from Katelyn's fertile mind over the course of the hour -- a pixie-like main character acts as our guide throughout, and I felt as if I was watching a female Harp... full review

Getting to Know You

I was really impressed with this show. I've been fascinated about how you were going to pull off eight one-on-one stories in kind of a speed dating format ever since you mentioned it at one of the early Fringe workshops. Well worth the wait! Not that it's limited to actors, but I really felt like I got to exercise my acting and improv skills during the course of this show. Not only are you interacting with the actors one at a time, they're talking to you as specific characters in your life.... full review

The Poe Show

So much fun! I met a friend at Fringe Central just as she was leaving to attend the Poe Show and I tagged along -- so glad I did! Possibly the finest bit of parody I've seen in a long time and constantly funny -- constantly biting -- and mostly accurate! Definitely check this out if you have the chance!... full review

Boss: The Untold Tony Danza Story

steve troop · June 13, 2015 certified reviewer
This is a great show -- the cast is amazing. Even if you've only seen a couple of episodes of "Who's the Boss?" it's apparent even before the actors are addressed onstage who they're playing -- Damien Luvara's Tony Danza and Summer Shirey's Judith Light especially stand out. Damien's due in part to his uncanny resemblance to Danza (as well as his spot-on characterization) and Shirey has managed to capture so many of the little acting tics and mannerisms that I wasn't even aware that Judith Light ... full review
