LOCKOUT

lee turnbull · June 27, 2014 uncertified reviewer
You enter the theater and standing on stage is a fiddler (violinist) playing the most nostalgic music and sent me way back to my childhood. The show is already winning. Then sat down you are transfixed with the lovely and charming set. Then it is announced that all the props and parts of the set are second hand and been custom mad for the show. The lights are yet to go up and already I'm impressed, the small details are always appreciated by me. The show itself is a very heartfelt story depicting... full review

Beau & Aero

Such a great show! So much fun. Who would of knew that so much could be done with balloons! Beau and Aero were one of my highlights at this years fringe and was a show that had everyone talking. A young team with incredible chemistry and just a natural talent to make people smile. The using of audience members was so funny and had me very nervous at one point as I found myself being stroked and played with by one of the dynamic duo. Such good fun and such a shame their show has ended, as so muc... full review

The Wake

And the winner of the/my best show of the fringe goes to THE WAKE. I have seen over a dozen shows at this years fringe and I know there is another 230 to see but I'm fairly damn confident that nothing can top this. WOW, just WOW. Ben Moroski is one hell of a talent. The writing is so clean, clear, ambitious and clever. So damn clever. At times I wanted to scream BRAVO at the simplest of writing choices. What I found the most intriguing about this piece is how so many of the patrons found the play... full review

And She Bakes, LIVE.

lee turnbull · June 22, 2014 uncertified reviewer
The show went up a few minutes late due to the technical issue of the projections that apparently play a huge part in this production not working. This makes me more excited to see the show. The show must go on. A cliche yes, but a very important aspect of theater. The show did go on and I was intrigued as to how the show would cope. It not only coped but shined. Daliya bakes for us as she does her one woman show. She compares all her ingredients to aspects of a relationship. Very funny and enter... full review

Jesus H: A Solo Play for the Zealot in all of Us

Seen 15 shows at this years Fringe so far and this is one of my top top picks. She has only one show left and I encourage all to go. Such a beautiful, charming and honest story of Mariah's story of being terrified by a long flight and having to endure the journey next to a Jehovah's witness who brings her back to her strict catholic upbringing and the questions that have arisen throughout her adult years. Mariah is an amazing storyteller, never did she seem like she was performing. She was just... full review

The Best of 25 Plays Per Hour

lee turnbull · June 16, 2014 certified reviewer
I wish sometimes I could just make people go and see certain plays. I can't. So I'll write this review instead and tell everyone that asks "what's good?" that this is a MUST SEE! I've seen 12 plays (at the time of writing this) at the fringe and this is my pick so far. So, you understand the concept right? It's 25 very short plays in an hour. Cool. But the concept isn't what makes it a MUST SEE. It's purely the content. Being from London and having see A LOT of theater, some of these 2 min plays... full review

Thumb Wars

lee turnbull · June 11, 2014 certified reviewer
Thumb wars is a piece that, although not relatable to my generation was a great insight into how 'kids' communicate and date each other nowadays. It's a reality, and this play shows very accurately exactly how the younger generation communicate. Although the play is a comedy, I got a feeling that the scenario that takes place within the piece is exactly what goes down after first dates. A complete miscommunication over what a text 'means' and complete over thinking of texts! "what does (...) me... full review
