This show was fully and absolutely brilliant. It was somehow both down-to-earth and completely fantastical, both over-the-top and deeply personal. Josiah is razor-sharp, and transitions between characters with impressive specificity. This is a solo show, but it feels impossible that it is being performed by only one person. I'm going to be thinking about this show for a long time. it is an impressive theatrical feat and truly one of my favorite performances I've seen in recent history. ... full review

This Was Never Supposed To Be A One Woman Show

Funny, soulful, and deeply intentional, this show is a painful and necessary catharsis. Samantha is spellbinding and so full of heart. Her voice is crystal clear and her presence is captivating. I feel grateful to have seen such a raw and powerful work. This is not an easy watch, particularly for those who relate to the mental health struggles discussed in the show-- but Samantha does a wonderful job of shepherding us through difficult moments and ends on an encouraging and beautiful note. ... full review

BUGS!

Upon seeing this show I was certain of one thing: it was born of the same divine inspiration of Franz Kafka's Metamorphosis. Never before have humans dared to peak so fearlessly into the confounding world of the planet's crawliest creatures. David Attenborough himself narrates this brilliant performance, and invites us all to consider the undeniable sexual energy of spiders. I left a changed person, four words burning the tip of my tongue: dunkle. dunkle. tom. dung. ... full review

A Shark Ate My Penis: a History of Boys Like Me

jill young · June 20, 2023 certified reviewer
Clever and thoughtful, musical and goofy, heartfelt and bold, this one-man-show rocked my world. Laser is incredibly talented, and his goofy, nerdy, stage persona is instantly lovable. From historical accounts of trans men to musical anecdotes to a villainous crudely-animated JK Rowling, every part of this show was as interesting as it was entertaining. Laser never claims to speak for all trans men-- instead he shares his personal experience and speaks to his place within the ancient and beautifu... full review

The Ramón Show & Friends: Collective Healing

This show lives up to its name-- collective healing. With the character of Ramon, Ruby embodies gentle masculinity-- a goofy, groovy, kindness that immediately feels safe. Ramon invites you to put down your walls and remember what it means to simply play. He speaks to the social and scientific benefits of play, and even introduces somatic exercises. As someone that lives with anxiety and other mental health disorders, I found these exercises to be surprisingly helpful, and even brought them into ... full review

A thoughtful and intimate show about trauma-- what we do to process, and the ways it holds us back in relationships. The dialogue was funny and real, and thoughtful moments flowed easily into silly sweet ones. Each member of the cast was individually very strong, and they came together well to create a range of characters and moments. I loved the way phone calls were represented in this show. ... full review

Best Coachella experience EVER!! (and I couldn't believe we showed up only 10 mins before and got barricade spots!!) It was life-changing to see a royal up close and personal, and experience his life stories told through catchy pop tunes. (Chris is hilarious and talented. His choreography and stage presence truly make these songs come to life, and I enjoyed every minute. Drop the album on Spotify PLEASE!!)... full review

Something Like... Musical

Something Like... was something I most definitely liked. Kelsey is instantly lovable, and she deals with the oft-unprofessional puppet antics with the utmost grace. I was so excited to finally see Carrot Puppet live-- I've been following his career for a while now and I'm happy to report he's as captivating as he seems. Overall, this was a lovely and hilarious meta-musical, and Kelsey's voice is undeniably incredible. ... full review
