Women

Brilliant and spot on in every way possible. Women is the show to beat at this year's Fringe (so to speak). #bethdies... full review

Into The Fog

Jaw-dropping theatre is hard to come by, especially in a piece with no dialogue. Incredible precision, timing, and physicality. In the four years I've been at the Fringe festival... this is the coolest, most breath-taking piece of theatre I've ever had the pleasure of sitting through. INCREDIBLE - Don't miss it. ... full review

Love Is.

Writer / Director / Actor Lee Turnbull is a triple threat at this year's Festival and his play Love Is. delivers! This tight, well rounded, heart breaking piece packs a punch and is firing at all ends. A solid cast, a beautiful script, this is what the Hollywood Fringe Festival is all about... gripping, no-holds-barred, live theatre! GO!... full review

Ryan is Lost

alex scott · July 15, 2013 certified reviewer
Ryan Is Lost, a two person dark comedy has a promising premise, and great potential, sadly though, it doesn't quite to live up to what it fully could be. The acting is a bit repetitive, and rarely are the choices made by either actor very interesting to watch. While the script is good, it leaves me a bit too confused and I too began to feel like the titular character, LOST - questioning and second guessing the characters on stage, wishing Wellman would explore perhaps the most interesting con... full review

Vivaldi's Winter

alex scott · July 02, 2013 certified reviewer
I went into Vivaldi's Winter admittedly pretty blind, unsure of what I was about to see, and while what I saw didn't "wow" me, I appreciate that this particular production had heart - something that's hard to find in a fringe show. The two person cast works well together and both monologues offer some complex character work. While I think Ashley Victoria Robinson could have come into her scene a bit more connected, she eventually gets there, and JP Rapozo blows his comically touching monologu... full review

O, Fallen One

alex scott · June 30, 2013 certified reviewer
I walked into O, Fallen One not really sure what to expect - but I was pleasantly surprised. This modern interpretation of one of Shakespeare's most beloved and troubled characters manages to be both creative and well executed with strong perfomances from all of it's actors from beginning to end. If I had to suggest ways to make this show better, I would offer up a couple things. First, find a new venue. The seats in this place are very very cramped and uncomfortable, and it's hard, being 6'2... full review

WHITE HOT

Powerhouse up and coming theatre company, The Vagrancy present the stark, intiment, and intense 4 person drama White Hot at this year's Fringe. As a whole, White Hot might be a little bit hard to process, but after thinking about it, I admire director Caitlin Hart's bold stylistic choices - though I can see where it wouldn't be for everyone, it totally works. Her two lead actors, Karina Wolfe and Michal Sinnott shine as sisters who don't have the best relationship in the world, and the pace a... full review

MisShapen

alex scott · June 24, 2013 uncertified reviewer
I have mixed feelings on Misshapen, mostly because I feel like the issue of Body Image/ I'm too fat/ I'm too thin/ I don't feel right in my body is a bit tired, especially from the college student perspective. The various "variety acts" seem to drift all over the place and there's what little through line there is seems to pretty forces. That said - the final two minutes of this show are the most honest, most heartfelt, most genuine two minutes I've seen on stage at this year's festival. And ... full review

The Devil and Billy Markham

alex scott · June 24, 2013 certified reviewer
There's nothing to hate about The Devil and Billy Markham. The text is virtually flawless and Aaron Lyons shines yet again as the Narrator/ Billy Markham/ The Devil/ etc. Every last second of this hour is purely enjoyable, and my only complaint is that at times, it's a bit hard to see - but I can't imagine this show anywhere but 3 Clubs - it's the perfect location for something like this. The Band. Ruth Fox (as the dancer/ Billy's Wife/ The Woman). Mr. Lyons. Zenith ensemble has done something ri... full review

(no static at all)

alex scott · June 24, 2013 certified reviewer
Alex Knox knows how to tell a great story. His relaxed and charming personality allow the audience to fully engage in a hour long tale of adventure, self-discovery, and faith. Though Knox's story doesn't end like you might want it to, and he doesn't allow a shift of his emotions on stage like other solo show performers do, it doesn't matter. He's a performer, and one that delivers everything he promises. If you want a relatable, fun mystery of sorts, this is the show for you. Get your tickets tod... full review
