Cadenza | Sci-fi Thriller

socks whitmore · July 09, 2023 certified reviewer
Fans of the "Escape Room" or "Cube" films will likely be drawn to this work—CADENZA is a smartly-crafted psychological thriller that challenges us to ask what we believe makes a person irredeemable, if such people are capable of change, and what punishments truly fit the crime.... full review

Queen Mab's Alarmingly Mandatory Bridal Shower

I've been looking forward to witnessing Elise Dewsberry take the stage as the alarmingly maladjusted Mab, and she surpassed my imaginings—I was impressed and amused by the queen's mad musings, and I can certainly say that no other solo show host has been quite so... domineering with their audiences. 😅 Queen Mab knows what she wants!... full review

Truly Outrageous: A Jem & The Holograms Parody Musical

socks whitmore · June 21, 2023 certified reviewer
Even if you go in knowing nothing about the source material (like myself), Truly Outrageous is a laugh-out-loud, glittery good time! A musical romp with smart parodies of our favorite 80s tropes that will totally leave you humming.... full review

SICK

An important piece of theater that I was grateful to have seen — as a younger member of the alphabet mafia, the opportunity to see how the generations before have beaten oppressive systems felt very needed in this tumultuous political moment. Thank you for telling this story right now. We are not sick, and we do not want to be cured.... full review

Raise Your Hand... From the DEAD!!

One of the funniest Fringe shows I've seen this year! A celebration of camp that takes you on a fast paced ride through your favorite B-movie tropes.... full review

The Seagull

This production of Chekov's classic is ambitious and brilliantly cast. A surprisingly intimate piece taking place within a slim aisle in the center of the room, the strange world of this dramatic and complex work feels almost out of time.... full review

SoundTrip: Fringe Edition

What an innovative new way to experience theater! Very glad I had the chance to study and learn from this artistic experiment as a creative theatermaker (and participate as an audience actor!); the unique nature of the set up is what makes this piece worth seeing, and I'm looking forward to the at-home release.... full review

ANNEX

After catching Maddox Pennington's brilliant play "Love Chicken" last year, I knew I had to see what came next from this talented playwright. I attended the Tarot Afterparty showing and was rewarded with an evening of queer camaraderie, magical misadventures, and honest discussion of mental health.... full review

The Collective: A 1920s Mafia Immersive Experience

socks whitmore · June 13, 2023 certified reviewer
I've been to a few Last Call shows before, and the showing I attended on Masked Monday was definitely one of my most memorable. I didn't know if I would enjoy the theme—1920s Mafia is hardly my bread and butter—but I was pleasantly surprised to find that being brought into a game of blackmail, secrets, and potential murder is a lot of fun, no matter the setting!... full review

A Shark Ate My Penis: a History of Boys Like Me

socks whitmore · June 11, 2023 certified reviewer
This show is part historical anthology, part autobiography, and all heart. I learned about some really cool trans icons, but most importantly, I got to hear Laser's story straight from him in musical form, and I was really touched by the opportunity. I also laughed a lot!... full review
