Wow! I didn’t know what to expect walking into the theater but what a journey. Damon and Nick’s chemistry from the beginning set for an amazing show. The storyline was intense, which was expected (per the poster/description). However, there were many moments of comedic relief. Two fun short plays set in a cemetery have a lot going on under their comedic surface. "I Hate How You Dress" is about death and the afterlife, mothers and personal responsibility. Funny and biting, but also sweet and hopeful. It brought a tear to my eye. "Our Cemetery" riffs on Thornton Wilder's Our Town, bringing together a group of theater kids 50 years after their last onstage performance. I really enjoyed both of these. The relationship between the mother and daughter Anna Lisa and Tammy was really terrific In the first scene. Not to take anything away from the mother and son characters or the rest of the cast. They were all really great. I just found myself getting glassy eyed during the mother daughter moments because you could feel the realness of what, I assume, the writer pulled from. A fantastic cast brought to life a poetic, in-and-out-of-present-time play that skillfully articulates the way grief moves us toward the truth. I thought Blackburn did a great job taking us on that road. Admitting that people are challenging to us, especially after they pass away, is a real act of courage, more so than when they're alive.
