From the very top of this show, Mark is a powerhouse of energy, comedy, and vulnerability. Small mistakes in the show are some of the most exciting parts— Mark’s clown and improv instincts are razor-sharp, and he uses these moments as opportunities to poke fun at himself, to step outside of the show and remind you that he’s here, he’s in control, and he’s laughing too. As a chronic people-pleaser myself, I instantly related to Mark’s journey and struggles— even if Satan himself hasn’t confronted me about it (yet.) Mark is a brilliant writer and performer with impeccable timing, hilarious physicality, and a unique perspective that he seamlessly expresses in this stellar solo show.
What I didn't like
Nothing… I was pleased!!
My overall impression
This show keeps you on your toes— from broken laptops to Satan to axe body spray (is that part staying?) Mark pulls from a seemingly never-ending bag of tricks to craft a story as hilarious as it is entertaining. Utilizing an array of voices, facial expressions, and well-timed projections, Mark brings his life perspective to you, and crafts a witty takedown of people-pleasing that, ironically, will do nothing but please you. Brilliant!!
