The narrative and themes of the show are great! Having a mute character who signs and having the entire show interpreted by a professional was really nice to see at Fringe.
What I didn't like
It seemed odd to have a little bit of vulgarity and a heavy theme of drunkenness in an otherwise family-friendly show; it would serve its target audiences best to adjust those elements. The show would also benefit from a better audio situation and refined music tracks; with some shoring up of the rough edges, this show could be great for schools to perform regularly!
My overall impression
Though not typical Fringe fare, Your Own Crown is proof that Fringe provides an excellent opportunity for young actors to gain professional experience and to elevate the platform of theater “by kids, for kids.” Hear more about the show contrasted against other Fringe productions on the “Stages of Our City” podcast: http://stageraw.com/2022/06/22/episode-18-part-1/.
