Being the disregarded ones by the school, their parents, and the society for being “different” or difficult to work with, this group of Chinese American students has jaded view on love for themselves and one another. They pay no respect for their bigoted principal and their drunk teacher for their his twisted and jaded view on education. However, when a mute transfer student and a fresh, enthusiastic substitute teacher are added into their class, this group of students is now challenged to face who they have become. Through their experience with the transfer student and the substitute teacher, they have found the new perspective on love and how to express themselves through music. It’s a roller coaster musical journey of laughs and hurt, and this musical’s subtle message of how being silent does not mean you are weak reflects the bigger picture of what the Asian American community has been going through in this country as Stop Asian Hate movement continues.
