Deeply personal, yet universally relatable are terms that probably just scratch the service of Meg Lin's triumphant solo show! In addition to massive amounts of heart and humor overflowing in the piece, there are also themes of family dynamics, never feeling as though you belong, and the havoc mental health can inflict that are explored. While I am not Chinese, I can certainly appreciate the messaging that maybe all of us are like "chopped suey" when it comes down to what and more importantly, who we are... this was truly a beautiful piece of theatre!!!...

And any of us raised by parents who grew up in another country or culture will identify with her struggle to become a modern American amid the challenges of trying to please parents who cannot possibly understand the new world in which you live....

What Am I, Chopped Suey? is a bitter sweet reminder of what it is like growing up Asian-American. She leads you through her childhood and adolescence into her adulthood. Along the journey, you find yourself connecting through your own memories. Working through feelings of rejection and being different....
