What I liked

I loved the seamless story telling. I never felt like I was being jerked back and forth when transitioning to new conversation topics. Also, writing the parts for older African American actors allows for a perspective we don’t often get to see, especially in a romantic setting.

What I didn't like

Honestly, my only note is that I wanted more! But I guess that’s the mark of a successful show, right?

My overall impression

Wow! I was not expecting to come away from a 30 minute play feeling so many different emotions! “Dismissed” was able to capture the energy and frustration that was felt during the 2020 protests against social injustice at the hands of the US Law enforcement, while seamlessly tying in a meet-cute love (and lust) story. It was nice seeing an open and HONEST conversation between two strangers, and served as a reminder that there is more going on behind the veneers we tend to put up to be “socially acceptable”. And the actors served as brilliant partners to writer/director Carol Becker, translating her words into a beautifully eclectic display. Definitely worth seeing!
