The script tells Joan’s story while also voicing her opinions on the consequences very succinctly. There’s a modern sense to these actions of so long ago. Amanda Wagner steps into to this role so seamlessly you’d think she’d been doing it for years. There’s a haunting conviction to her Joan who also maintains a good sense of humor despite the horrible events around her. Alyssa Escalante’s sure-handed direction keeps all these elements moving along briskly but never short-changed.
What I didn't like
It’d be great to see a more technical elements added to this in the future. Enhanced lights and sound could really add a new element to this already strong piece.
My overall impression
A quietly powerful script anchored by a stunning solo performance by Amanda Wagner. She commands the stage with a poignant aura of earned swagger and confidence as she looks right at you, telling you that you will listen to Joan’s story. There’s a directness in the script, the acting, and the on-point direction by Alyssa Escalante that make this production feel fresh and relevant without ever pushing too hard.
