What I liked

The show wasn’t intentionally offensive. I thought the heart was in the right place, just execution was sloppy.

What I didn't like

Ali’s pursuit of Joy is creepy. He stalks her. Not romantic in the slightest.

My overall impression

The premise is interesting enough: a same-sex marriage to result in a green card; however, when comparing it to works with similar premises such as The Odd Couple or the ridiculously homophobic I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, the show already feels behind-the-times. If the end of the show had resulted in, say, a character’s coming out, that would definitely improve matters, but the show is a story about immigration that ends with a very awkward position regarding homophobia and same-sex marriage. For example, the entire ploy to gain a green card is completely foiled because the two main characters refuse to kiss one another. In other words, they would rather risk prison time than kiss a dude. Unintentional as it may have been, the ending was homophobic and ultimately anticlimactic.
