What I liked

This was intimate theatre at it’s best – visceral, poetic, beautiful, and gut-wrenching! I loved the minimal furniture/prop pieces, costumes, sound effects, the gorgeous lighting, and way these elements combined. They naturally enhanced this show in perfect symphony. I cannot compliment the acting enough – this was truly a revelation and transformative show-womanship at its finest!! I LOVED when the performer was not speaking English, because for me, it didn’t matter as her emoting let me as an audience member know what she was feeling. It made the piece so authentic so have another language used!

What I didn't like

Like others have said, I look forward to MORE. MORE. MORE. I could have watched for longer.

My overall impression

This is a MASTERCLASS in performance! I was so deeply enraptured in this piece of theatre that I actually remember letting out a breath at the end of the show. I was “all in” from the get-go and feel that the stars aligned so beautifully in the telling of Margaret Garner’s story. When an audience leaves transported, an actor’s job is complete – thank you, Makena Hammond, for taking us on such a compelling, heart-breaking, deeply moving journey. BRAVO to the writing, directing, and most especially, the ACTING!!
