What I liked

The staging was fantastic. The movement work done by the cast, and the choreography itself really blew me away. The stylized fights were so fun right from the start, but in the final push, it really paid off visually in what was a masterful confrontation scene. Travis Dixon and Joanna Hernandez were so incredibly well cast as the leads, and they tore it up on stage. Awesome work. The handling of their respective dramatic arcs was so well done by both performers. You really saw so much range, and the ensemble of Heroes really did a nice job helping them along. I had the privilege of seeing Greg Craft’s first play at the 2010 Hollywood Fringe, and it was so much fun seeing his work ten years later. The story is passionately written with such love of the comic genre, but it’s still a relationship drama at heart. Its commentary on the modern man’s acceptance of the modern woman, competition in love, status in the relationship really is the heart of what it’s about. It’s a brilliant amalgamation.

What I didn't like

There is an interesting protagonist shift (can’t say more about it without spoiling). I think there’s a lot of interesting stuff in that, which can’t be fully explored in 75 minutes, and I would personally love to see it fleshed out earlier in the set-up and in the first act.

My overall impression

Theatre Unleashed at their best. I would say don’t miss it, but you’re probably going to because it’s sold out the whole run. Keep a look out for extensions for this one. It’s worth your time.
