I Am Not A Man was a surprise. When the solo act began, I thought I was going to see half-hour show with an artist who could make me laugh with great comic timing. What we ended up with was a deep and emotional mini-play, that gives the audience a look behind the sorrow of a female comedian’s life—in this case a young woman who dealt with the confusion and pain of a father who tried his best but failed at times horribly and the destructive results for his daughter.
What I didn't like
It’s hard to be in a tiny space with a small ability to create changes in time and place. But this is Fringe. For the most part it was handled marvelously, with amazing sound effects timed perfectly—interesting and often funny. Occasionally, I felt like there were too many changes in lighting that disrupted sensitive moments of story.
My overall impression
A talented and fun comedian lets you see into her world in a mini-play that touches the heart.
