The story follows Jenny, whose plan is to get pregnant, but when she finds herself hitting a few roadblocks, believing it to be her age as she has just turned thirty-five this show chronicles her struggles about fertility. Jenny faces a myriad of different pregnancy "options," including but not limited to – freezing her eggs, in-vitro, adoption, and much more. As she tries to reconcile her thoughts with the torrent of external opinions from her mom, her friends, physicians, a beloved neighbor with sage advice – and even God which are all played excellently by Dowling – Jenny must ultimately look within herself to discover what motherhood truly means, and what it means to be Fertile.... full review

So many of us have always taken having children for granted. Thanks to the comic genius of Heather Dowling, we will never think of that topic in the same way we have before. FERTILE is a study in how to do character work in a solo show right. Not only is the structure of the show tight and moves flawlessly, but Heather Dowling creates scenes between two (or three) distinct people and takes her time shifting from one to the next as they communicate. Her timing is perfect and her characters are always honest and never rushed. The show is a terrific blend of comedy, tragedy, drama, and inspiration and Heather is a tremendous performer. Can't wait to see her next project!... full review

Ms. Downing has a genuine talent for bringing characters to life in this solo show. Her energy, physicality and center shifts to embody a variety of characters, from the slightly [maybe completely] mysoginistic doctors her character Jenny and husband Matt encounter on their quest to get pregnant to the delightful older woman next door to the new age acupuncturist who promises to access angel babies - the show seems to cover it all.... full review
